You make multiple good points in this post. Also, even if Walmart, Target, etc. decided to re-open stores that were destroyed in the riots, from a risk management perspective, they should let a number of events go by before starting any type of reconstruction effort. The upcoming risks that could cause a "re-riot" include; the upcoming presidential elections, the upcoming trials for the police officers in Minneapolis, among other things. It could be a year or two to rebuild. Who knows if that will happen? It is probably safe to assume that theft/store shrinkage was high at these stores already. Local police and off-duty cops were probably heavily utilized to deal with in-store theft as well as theft-by-staff. If Walmart can't lean on the local police and off-duty police then there is not a chance in hell Walmart comes back. Target might come back, but purely for PR purposes. Maybe the Mayor can provide free, on-site Life Coaches in the place of the police. These Life Coaches can persuade thieves not to steal.
Right. Because the "life coaches" are going to do this for free? Oh hell no. What a joke this all has become. Children are growing up with parents who grew up with parents who didn't know how to parent and it's just become a downward cycle. So much stupid out there it's going to take much, much more than a new crop of social workers to fix. Clearly, the adults are not in charge in Chicago. Oh, but Oprah's going to fix it all with a town hall. Or something. What a crock.
It's all calculated into the cost of doing business in the hood. This is why it takes massive tax incentives for businesses to open up a location in the hood. They know that shoplifting is going to be much higher, keeping the store shelves orderly will take more time and effort, and the always presence of violence about to breakout.
When grandma has yet to see her 30th birthday you know there's a problem. Children raised by children end up being a Lord of the Flies situation.
Here is the audio (in the article linked). Feel free to listen to the conversation between the mayor and the Aldermen. Listen to the panic. Its over an hour long, with mayhem throughout the call.
This is yet another reason why the dems made a big mistake by not nominating Marianne Williamson. In the coming era, there will be crimes in tough neigborhoods but instead of police responding some essential oils will be immediately dispatched to that area to get everyone's chakra re-aligned and their ying and yang back in balance.
The most successful corporations in your country and many of your top professionals and academics are located in "liberal" cities.
Chicago has extinguished itself once again by electing someone even worse than Lightfoot. The City will go tits up with this guy in office. It is already at the tipping point and they are doubling down on all their past stupidity. What could go wrong there?
