I can't pull up the studies, but I am pretty sure pre-natal care, and the first few years of development of a child have a lot to do with the overall long term health of that child. Naturally, the impoverished would suffer accordingly more than those with financial wherewithal, and become even more of a burden to society as they aged and developed more illness...
