No, supply & demand allows us to become energy leaders because we are among the top in energy demand. We could curve that demand and export more of our energy to keep supply & that leadership going. The only legitimate argument the western countries have going for them to use more energy per capita are the seasonal needs requiring them to burn hydrocarbons (winter). 3rd worlders just wear extra clothes and use extra blankets.
