Radarscreen should run OK on dual core. If you are just running Radarscreen and nothing else, then there may not be much benefit, but it would be best to ask the vendor. If you are running something else on the box, then dual core should be very beneficial. Dual core is not like hyperthreading which was never going to offer all that much performance improvement. If you are running multiple programs at the same time, then dual core should always be very useful. Both AMD and Intel are releasing new dual core products in Q2. The Intel product seems like it will be significantly quicker than their current offerings and maybe equal to or better than AMD which is currently the clear performance leader.
Rather than running dual core, you could always go for cheap overkill: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9715818169&fromMakeTrack=true Or, if you can't up your power supply: http://cgi.ebay.com/Dell-Poweredge-...ryZ51229QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem You can always bump up the CPU's at this price. And you have a nice setup of starter drives, you can always get larger.
Yep that's another option. Thx Trying to work out if I can get away with adding an old corporate box for RS or if current 3Gz P4/2GB RAM must become the RS box on the LAN for 1 market with Dual core for RS on another market + trading apps/charting. Sounds like comlplete overkill but I want to have the horsepower to track some things at tick and Bid/Offer refresh level. Suspect current non dual core P4/2GB might slow with RS + 1000 symbols at exactly the wrong time.
obscenely fast... and cpu usage doesnt seem to get over 25% with all apps loaded, 12 real-time charts, 5 real-time news windows, 4 trading apps, and even if i open another 15 fresh IE windows... all it does is use up more RAM (980MB instead of 500ish) but i've got 4GB... i can now throw my dimension 4700C out the window... theres no going back (to single core)
seems i only got 2GB actually, as i'd ordered... got confused with what they call the 'commit charge' under task manager performance tab... japanese OS and my japanese's still not that good... in any case, more than sufficient judging by the perf!
Hey Electric, here is a computer for your leisure time ! http://www.voodoopc.com/showroom.aspx?productID=1038
Calling all tech people. I don't believe this one got answered. Do I really have, essentially, 2 different chips in 2 different boxes? If so, what the heck is the point of the dual chip machine? Thanks, Wilburbear
Usually these dual chip machines have sexy, brightly colored cases I love my 350 buck Dell 8250...with smoke gray...its more than I need, and I scalp off of a Java platform!!!!! Thank you to the person that talked some sense into me and sold me their used one. As far as my Samsung monitors, Yes I got a good price on my three pricey 970P's...but you can find ViewSonics at Costco with a liberal six-month return policy...and prolly a 3Y from ViewSonic... Highly qualified tech response team. (HQTRT) Michael B.
