  1. Great.

I was going to get a X2, but for what I am doing, I think a 3500+XP is ample. It was also on sale :)

  2. Absolutely!

I built my own Dual Core 4800 while at Fry's in CA. It is in a Biostar/IDEQ box (1000 times better and easier than a Shuttle). I have a 10K RPM 78 gb HD up front for the Windows XP 64 bit OS and a 500 gb storage HD. I have the Matrox QID 4 head PCI Video Card, 4 gig of matched memory and a Lite Scribe DVD/CD burner. This is all being run with a 350 TRUE watt Power Supply. The machince is wonderfully silent and about the size of a 4 slice toaster. I'm running Esignal, my Onyx trading Platform, wireless keyboard & mouse, avast Antivirus and MultiCharts constantly with 8 different Markets open at any given time of the 33 I watch daily. All without a smidgen of problems. The most I've been able to push the CPU to is 41%.

I run MS FrontPage 2003, Office 2003, Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard and IE 64 occasionally all without a bit of problems.

    This machine screams!!

  3. You have a BEAST of a computer!!! :)

Hey, can you do something for me....Open your CPU usage window, and click open internet 15 times as fast as you can. How high does your CPU usage get to?

  4. Never thought of doing that. It maxed out at about 65% and memory usage maxed out at 300 mg.

  5. 65%? Wow, not bad, not bad at all :)

    Mine hit 74%

  6. why would you want to do that? try Opera instead of IE, MUCH faster, less resource-hungry... plus you can still use IE if one of the apps you need doesn't seem to launch under Opera (e.g. currenex...)

  8. Nice now you need Window Prosessional XP X-64 edition to take advantage of the processors.

I have a question do you need to have XP professional full install all ready installed on your drive before you install X64?

I just bought a Dell 1800 server with no software, with dual xeon for $999.00 it was half price and could not pass it up. I am going to use it as a workstation. Will this full version of x64 here work?

I thought of doing this as well. I would be curious to see how it goes with putting the Video Cards in the server and making it into a trading workstation. Come back here and share with us any details and how it goes.

From the DD page you included above:

All drivers must be 64-bit. There are still quite a few gaps in the list of available drivers but the situation should improve dramatically now that Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is officially launched. If you're buying new hardware, you should definitely make sure that there are x64 drivers available before you buy.

I ran a beta version of Win 64 about 18 months ago. Had problems with my video cards and had to run default VGA mode so canned my beta. Check your peripherals for 64 bit drivers.
