I adware, avg and defrag weekly. Here is exactly what happens. I double click the tws icon. the box comes up and I sign on as usual. Then the rectangulbox comes on and the thing starts opening up the tws and then it cuts off. It won't let me in. I cannot use the IB site. It won't let me sign on.
What version of Java does TWS require? Does it require 1.5 or can you still stay with the 1.4 series. Don't use 1.4.0. There were some security things added to the later versions in the 1.4 series. I'm wondering if you are missing something that TWS needs. Install the latest version of Java in the 1.4 line which is 1.4.2_08 http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
I agree with you. I've only called them a handful of times over several years. Always polite, competent. I can never understand this unending thing about bad support. I can't figure out what people are calling them for to begin with. OldTrader
Awwwww, c'mon now! There are many of us here that trade with IB with NO problems whatsoever! The problem is a combination of your old hardware, win98 and your ability to install Java and TWS properly. Buy a new puter with a clean XP install and start over. Follow the directions at IB, they are clear as day! Good luck!
hoodooman..... I've been scanning over this thread. You must be very frustrated at this point. Follow these steps and I bet you can login to IB: Delete your old java. Download java 1.5.0_02. Go to the IB "Trading Software" page. Click on the "TWS Login" button. (This will be for the IB TraderWorkstation Browser Based version. DO NOT click the button which says TWS Beta Version.) When the window pops up, note this sentence: "If applet fails to load please click here." (You may have to do this.) Then be patient. Wait for at least 90 seconds for your login window to load. I too have been having trouble with some logins. I find that the above will make TWS work. Good luck!!
Condor..... I respectfully disagree with this post. There are oftentimes problems with IB upgrades/downloads/instructions. The directions from IB, whether on the website, telephone, and/or emails are sometimes quite unclear. I do agree that XP, the correct java, and newer hardware should be helpful in this matter though.
Quote from hoodooman: I cannot use the IB site. What does that mean? If you open IE and go to www.interactivebrokers.com, what happens? If that works fine, what about the specific questions I asked? If you want help, please take the time to help me help you.
Actually the system requirements page doesn't say, but I think the jre will run it fine since its just client software and you can also run it as a browser applet. But the requirements page does say 1.4.2._06. There are alot of differneces between 1.4.0 and 1.4.2. Particularly with the security classes.
