I can see the degapping and naming the price cases is a hazard.

You still need to re-read his instruction a few times. OB's are NOT "Wait" events. I repeat... never put "WAIT" for an OB. Only the second bar of "internals" where the volume of the second bar is not larger than the first bar.

An OB gives you permission to use volume. It has two ends. So in your favor I could interpret the line that you drew through the volume column's that you understood this and therefore divided the volume columns correctly into two parts. ;-)
