there are conmpellng arguments for having your own bullion. ETFs are nice, but in a catastrophic event, you are counting on someone else to make available the gold futures or ETFs you though you owned.
An $11K bank wire and a $9K bank wire leave the exact same paper trail... no meaningful difference whatsoever between the two. The $10K mark is only significant for cash transactions and international border crossings.
Meant cash transaction. For wire xfers, there must be some level that draws more attn? For bank deposits I think it's 10k?
somewhere I read that gold bought with cash (cold cash, not wired) from a dealer had to be reported to the feds. for amounts above $5K the claim by the gov. that it was trying to stop money laundering... cant find the thread where that was discussed
LOL, Buying gold at these levels huh? Thinking gold is going to go to 20000. There is only one person who I traded with, whom is on ET from time to time, who actually walked into our trading room, BLING BLINGING. He bought X amount of Gold Bars. This was back in 2000. I bet he still holds those bars, it was a pretty big supply for one guy. You late to the boat there guy. :eek:
the Fed just created $75 billion today. $7 billion would clean out the COMEX warehouses 20,000? maybe not
look at the temporary open market operations, fed is draning money from the system daily there, their policies to save the investement banks might be inflationary but its not huge
the fed will still roll a lot of the garbage they bought for years and then when things calm down, they'll auction the crap to whoever has the shortest memory
I've never thought of myself as a nutcake survivalist but reading this thread reminds me that I have a safe full of silver maples, a coupla big storage racks of food and water, 4 1/2 cases of Absolut 100 and a mountain of 12ga and .308 ammo. I live in a hilltop fortress on a desert butte with 2 not-so-friendly german shepards. Got a diesel generator. Next thing you know I'll be seeing UFOs and composing anti-government slogans lol. On the other hand, I can see the San Andreas Fault from here so it doesn't seem to crazy to be ready for teotwawki.
