That's the DoD Medal for Distinguished Public Service, not a combat award, although he was awarded the Bronze Star while serving in the Army during WWII. But not for being a diplomat.

The U.S. Is the Biggest Carbon Polluter in History. It Just Walked Away From the Paris Climate Deal

    snip

The United States, with its love of big cars, big houses and blasting air-conditioners, has contributed more than any other country to the atmospheric carbon dioxide that is scorching the planet.

“In cumulative terms, we certainly own this problem more than anybody else does,” said David G. Victor, a longtime scholar of climate politics at the University of California, San Diego. Many argue that this obligates the United States to take ambitious action to slow global warming.

But on Thursday, President Trump announced the United States would withdraw from a 195-nation agreement on climate change reached in Paris in 2015.

The decision to walk away from the accord is a momentous setback, in practical and political terms, for the effort to address climate change.

We went to war originally with Iraq/ME when Kuwait was invaded. Basically containing OPEC threats.

As a result, sanctions were placed on Iraq/Hussein. We went into Iraq when Saddam Hussein broke the monetary and trading restrictions placed on him, basically trading oil for gold/goods circumventing the SWIFT/OPEC Dollar standard.

If you want to do some interesting research, compare the countries barred from SWIFT and those currently seeking their own replacement to SWIFT against those countries we are currently engaged with military action or threatening to do so.

Trump is not pulling out of Syria because it is the right thing for America, he is pulling out because it’s what Russia and Turkey want. He is leaving allies high and dry while aiding and abetting our enemies.

So here we have a complicated issue of what do we do when we have made commitments in places we should not have been in the first place. If you’re a person of principles and integrity, you don’t go back on your commitment.

The Kurds are unique in the Middle East in that they are relatively moderate and tolerant Muslims. The more power and influence they have the safer we are as an enemy of extremists in the Middle East.

Leaving Kurdish people to be slaughtered does not benefit us in any way.

The cost of freedom is a phrase that often gets thrown around and used euphemistically for misguided adventures in the Middle East, Iraq invasion especially and expanded operations in Afghanistan are the too obvious ones. We got in way to deep there. But, not in Syria.

In Syria we fight with Kurds and our presence there adds a level of security and is a nexus for Israeli intelligence and counter-Iranian operations.

Long story, short, no we should not be exiting Syria. Mattis and McGurk understand this issue and resigned for reasons much greater than being discussed by the media. This is a very serious issue and Trump is endangering our national security by turning over Syria to the Russian-Iranian interests and opening Kurdish fighters to slaughter. We lose.

Yes, like I said, we are there for Israel, again, still. You think we're there for the Kurds? lol Turkey is our enemy? And who gives a shit about Iran. When was last time Iran started a war and killed millions? Iran is an advanced and basically peaceful nation for ME standards. I'll tell you who is paranoid about Iran. Israel, and manyJews, and ignorant paranoid triggered Fox News watchers. They can take care of themselves. Besides, Israel needs to start to be answerable for the shit it's doing. Like the US, it's no angel.

The establishment deep state wants perma-wars. Trump ran on getting a conclusive outcome and then getting out of these wars.

Are we going to permanently occupy Afghanistan? Syria? Iraq? We have been in Afghanistan for 17 years... At some point you bring the troops home and recognize that you may have to return and kick some ass in the future.

You're correct in the fact that the Kurds are unique in the ME. But they are not all Muslim, and those that are comprise both Sunni and Shia. There's also Yazidis, Zoroastrians and even a few Christians. They are more about ethnicity than religion.

The problem exists in that they have no legal boundaries or homelands spread out over Iraq, Iran, Turkey and Syria. Most Kurds have fought alongside Amercians hoping for the US to press their rights on the Global level for their own land.

While they are fierce fighters, they are outmatched militarily in arms and high tech hardware. The US has basically held their enemies/Turkey and other strict Muslim sects at bay in Iraq and in Syria as they've occupied the same territory as US troops. Remember the no fly zones in Iraq during the Gulf wars, they were there to protect the Kurds. We've kept Turkey and others for the most part from attacking them as they see them as terrorists.

If the US pulls out of the area their umbrella protection will be gone as their dream of an actual homeland. Land they believe they've fought, bled and died for.

How do you now redraw boundaries? The idea was tossed around earlier regarding Iraq but was scrapped.

Either we setup a permanent base in Northern Iraq for them to retreat to out of Syria or stay in Syria and ensure their safety against Turkey/extreme Muslim threats. There's the problem of national borders to address but without our help they will end up being they greatest ethnic tragedy coming out of the ME.
