I am an advocate of Z-Pak

Its one of the combo drugs I was treated with in 2016 when I lapsed into a coma / life support / ECMO after respiratory failure) via Pneumonia that had turned sepsis. I was in a coma for almost 2 months.

I was given other treatments (e.g. they turned me over to my stomach).

The antibiotics killed off so many other stuff including "good" bacteria from the stomach that keeps balance. I then developed a more deadly infection call Clostridium Difficile / something commonly caught in hospitals ICUs...

Came out of the coma but with a different deadly infection. They then quarantine me for about a month and treated that.

Do not know if I survived because of the Z-Pak, other treatments or the special overall care...maybe prayers from my elders that were flown in...all of it together. I really do not know what was the critical treatment in the care of me.

Yet, I do know today, Covid-19 can cause similar like illness that I had and I do remember it as initially being just a cough just like any other cough. Something else, it never felt like the flu.
    • It was very deceptive...sneaky.
One night it was just a bad cough...woke up the next morning with barely a fever. Had to check my temp a few times because one of the readings showed it was not a fever. I remember thinking if my high threshold for pain was being used against me to quietly wreck havoc on my body.

Thinking back sometimes...it was surreal and spooky. I had decided to go to the hospital to get a quick checkup for the cough especially after having a little difficulty with a 5 mile jog a few days earlier and problems a day earlier in one of my 2 kilometres rowing training sessions that I normally do not have any difficulties.

Collapsed right in the lobby waiting room while reading a magazine. Looking back, its scary to think about how a cough can quickly (less than 24 hours) turned almost deadly with so very little warning.

Took about 2 years to fully recover as in get back to the same shape I was in prior to the illness. Glad to have public & private health insurance...medical costs outrageous.

Hospitalized in Europe after a pheasant hunting trip with former military friends...a few from South Korea, France and USA. Medivac back to Canada under a care of a specialist that's renown for treating Pneumonia Sepsis.

None of my friends were ill nor became ill. Same with my kids whom I had close contact with. All were tested because the hospital was trying to find the source...contact tracing.
    • They couldn't find the source.
Military buddies said when I was eventually released from the hospital / rehab...I looked like a war prisoner that had been starved. It felt like it too especially because I was quarantine for so long.

The day I was released...could not curl a 5 lb dumbbell. Today, back doing curls with 40 - 50 lbs...high reps...jogging, biking, rowing and extreme winter hiking / camping.

P.S. Never want to go thru that type of illness again. Reason why I take this Covid-19 very seriously because it can cause the same problems.

Do not underestimate these respiratory diseases. They really do ambush your body.

My apology Doc. Didn't know we have someone with profound medical knowledge here.

I am not being sarcastic, I am just a mom & pop amateur retail, zero medical knowledge, my news sources are Fox, CNN and research are Motley Fool & Yahoo Finance.

May I ask you a question, sir: Your opinion and assessment of remdesivir?

    Thanks.

How about these from the same article cited by @clacy:

I don't understand the medical terminologies.

Z Pack is NOT Hydroxychloroquine. It's an antibiotic Zithromax used to treat respiratory infections. https://www.drugwatch.com/zithromax-z-pak/ You likely had a lung infection or some kind of infection in your respiratory system and your doctor prescribed you that. Glad you are ok.

OK, people, patiently I will explain one more time, using a new analogy:

    Covid: forest fire

    Zinc: water

Ionophores: pressure in the fire truck

So Covid is like a forest fire. Zinc is the water that can block the fire but the fire truck that contains it needs pressure to be able to use the water. And obviously you have to start to put out the fire EARLY, not when half of the forest is already burning.(patient is on ventilator)

If you guys still don't get it, you never will. Furthermore, there are other ionophores not just HCQ, but HCQ is the most effective. According to a study the pressure (ability to help Zinc through the cell barrier) works like this compared with other ionophores: (you can see them in the picture of the first Youtube link, with other, even less effective ionophores)

    HCQ 6x
    EGCG 4X
    Quercetin 2X

So if you oppose HCQ because you are too stupid to do your own google search or you are afraid of side effects, fine, just take EGCG (green tea extract) and Quercetin. Furthermore Quercetin also has another way of working against the virus, it is known to kill SARS. And they are both cheap AND available supplements without side effects.

Now go in peace and put out the fire....

There's different types of Z-Pak. Some countries use Zithromax while others use Azithromycin. The difference of use is dependent upon the type & strain of the infection but my understanding changed a few years later (see below).

There use to be a third type many many years ago but they stop using it because it has a high association with also causing arrhythmia.

What's confusing is that I've heard although never seen it that some pharmaceuticals will label their Z-Pak as Zithromax (Azithromycin) as if its a combo of both.

About 2 years later after my hospitalization I asked my pharmacist what's the difference ?

He said one is the generic name (Azithromycin) while Zithromax is the typical pill form name. It became confusing when its given intravenously or shot to a coma patient, its known as Azithromycin but typically when its in pill form its known as Zithromax.

Some places refer to it as Z-Pak while others refer to it as Z-Max.

Recently, I've learned that when its label as Zithromax...its more expensive in comparison to when its label as Azithromycin (almost 1/2 price in pill form).
    • Regardless to its name use...its effective against bacteria infections and not effective against viral infections.
It's one of the reasons why a person should only take these types of drugs under a doctor's care and not on your own as if you're treating yourself because you don't want to take something for a bacteria infection when in reality its incorrect due to the fact you have a viral infection.

There tends to be a higher number of self treatment without doctors care in these types of Pandemics because many people become paranoid about going to a hospital for care.

Currently, its a popular drug to buy on the black market by people wanting to treat themselves (self-treatment) because they don't want to world to know they're Covid-19 positive.

A vaccine can't be delivered fast enough, if for no other reason than to kill the stupid conspiracy theories. The board-certified doctors who are pushing these dumb conspiracy theories should have their license seized.

    antibiotics operate against bacteria
bacteria are a major carrier of virus within the host's system
for this reason, docs will often prescribe antibiotics in concert with a treatment plan against infections.
A robust host with minimal pre-existing conditions applying drag to the system will increase the probability that an effective immune response will prevent and mop up all this crap without antibiotics, hydroxy, etc, to the extent that the host will never know the numerous viral and bacterial exposures daily, and the cancer incidents that are nipped in the bud as life progresses, due to the immune system kicking ass on a minute by minute basis. What's vital is to eat as much sugar and processed junk food as possible while moving less than a sloth. The take-home and stay there message is - Hug that couch and eat junk.
