good luck with that in florida. Desantis sold his soul to insurance companies when trying for the presidency. They always low ball and now attorneys fees have to be paid from the claimant. A win win for them. Even PIP suits for car insurance went away.

I haven’t had insurance for close to 12 years. I’m already flipped.

We are safe made it through ok, although it was a terrifying night to be honest. Our Internet is out but somehow we didn't lose power even though the majority of our neighborhood did. We didn't have any house damage but our neighbors on both sides lost some major trees. We just have a crazy amount of storm debris to pick up. Here's a shot of my driveway. All two acres of the lot are like this. PXL_20241010_113643905.jpg

Gov. DeSantis confirms 5 deaths as a result of Hurricane Milton
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced at a news conference in Fort Pierce Thursday that five deaths, all in St. Lucie County, have been confirmed as a result of Hurricane Milton.
Guess I should consider myself "lucky" but I was never in any serious danger. The development of 36 condo buildings of which I am in is a double U-shaped ring around a inner marina on the IntraCoastal two miles from the ocean but is located on a former Navy base location - very strong structurally, designed and built the right way.

I previously posted (in a where do you trade from topic I think) a nice sunny pic. Well here's the view this morning:-

Oh BTW the big one straight ahead in the background is mine - wink, wink. Ya know where are all the customers yachts lol.

Actually chartering is way better than owning "a hole in the water you throw money into".

How Tampa General withstood two hurricanes

Just two weeks after protecting Tampa General Hospital from Hurricane Helene, AquaFence faced a bigger test with Hurricane Milton...and once again it passed.

The hospital, the only Level 1 trauma center in the region, is located in the low-lying Davis Islands neighborhood of the city, a high-risk flood zone that was under a mandatory evacuation warning from Milton. But the staff stayed put during the storm, confident the building would be safeguarded by innovative, temporary bulwarks made by the company AquaFence the hospital first invested in four years ago.

It worked: As Milton moved inland overnight, Tampa General posted on X that it was “weathering the storm” and “power, water and supplies are holding strong.”

    What is AquaFence?
The company’s watertight fences, which cost anywhere from $350 to $1,000 per linear foot, are made of one-inch-thick panels that secure to the ground and can withstand high winds while protecting buildings from flooding. Launched in Norway in 1999, AquaFence says it now protects more than $30 billion worth of real estate in the US across 24 states, shielding everything from hotels to banks to a Shake Shack.

    • They also go up quickly: According to the company’s US president, 100 feet of AquaFence can be installed in 30 minutes.
    • And crucially, AquaFence walls are reusable, able to be deployed up to 60 times.
Big picture: As climate change intensifies natural disasters, more private companies are working to develop tech to protect against the damage. And as the risks rise, so does the cost of keeping you and your stuff safe. AquaFence is developing a residential model that would cost around $20,000 per household.

The latest on Milton: As of 5am ET, Milton is exiting Florida’s east coast as a Category 1 storm after making landfall on the state’s west coast near Sarasota last night as a Category 3. More than 3 million homes and businesses are without power. You can read live updates here.—MM

So the hurricane has past Orlando now? Did you have to go to the basement? Glad you made it ok :fistbump:. Beautiful trees and flowers.

It's amazing something that doesn't come up that high can protect against such strong winds and floods. What if the waves from a flood rise above the height of the barriers?

No such thing as basements here in Fl. Our master bedroom has the least amount of windows so that's where we camped out, but in the event of blown out windows or major roof damage letting rain in, our gameplan was to take the dogs and get in my wife's Tesla SUV in the garage. We figured the car would provide an extra bubble of security and we could sit in there with the AC blasting watching a movie or whatever on the big dash screen. Thankfully, the house held up and we never got to that level, but at around 3:30AM, we were definitely thinking about it because the conditions were just awful outside and the sounds of tree branches snapping made us feel like something really bad was going to happen at any second. Had the power gone off, we would have migrated to the Tesla for sure.
