  1. Institutional type and I talking about that tonight. 9000 by November. That'll stain some shorts.

  2. I forget the one in '96, but a small gambling boat out of Port of Palm Beach pulled up and sailed north to escape the storm that skirted the coast, and nailed it up by Cocoa Beach. Two or three people died. Casino rat I was at the time, I got calls being sure I was safe. Great boat, too. Damn. I'd be afraid to run. I'd feel like I was in that Helen Hunt movie.

  5. having lived on the coast for 40 years and been run over by storms too numerous to name.. I urge anyone in the path of Ike to spare yourself the misery of no power, or water and a hole in the roof where the water pours in.

hop a jet to Vegas, and have some fun

all the crap from the storm will be there when you get back...

Pm me. I grew up in Jefferson Parish. I know a P&C outfit there, and have family ties there. I'll do anything I can to help you. I'll also put in contact with the General Agent of a large carrier there. He is a good guy, and will speak with you, and answer your questions.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

We moved out of Kenner in the early 1980's, but have kept ties there. In fact, I was there after Katrina hit, and the levees broke with my AR-15 helping friends and family get valuables out of their homes before looters did thier thing. It's amazing what an AR-15 with a 30 round mag will do to deter theft! (no, I didn't have to shoot anyone. LOL! Just the sight of a former Marine carrying his rifle did what I wanted it to do! None the less, I would have put a round where it needed to be if some looter had tried to hurt my family and friends! Ooh rah!!!!!!!)

It's even more amazing to know how we got back in. A Cousin who works for a major liquor distributor gave a case of "liqua" to the "Nawleans Pooolice" so we could get off the exit, and get to to Kenner. (I was hiding my face in embarrasment when she said we've got "liqua." LOL!) Their Homes only had about 16" of water inside due to being about 2' below sea level instead of 16' like it was downtown, and the 9th ward.

Again, I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

    God bless

So true! Get out of the way!

We lost a Vacation Home on Hatteras Island, NC over five years ago, and it's an emotional nightmare! When I say vacation home, I meant a place we wanted to retire to someday... My Wife still cries herself to sleep at night when we hear of a Hurricane heading to the Outer Banks. I might post the pics if you all want to see what a beach house looks like sitting in the middle of the road on US highway 12...

We'll NEVER , EVER own a place on the coast again. The sound, maybe. But not on the beachfront.

  8. well,

I lived on Ponchatrain and returned to defend what was left.. the looters were stealing boats that were adrift to get around road check points and at nite would come thru the swamp to loot 2 story structures since the knew that's where the unflooded stuff was...

the cops and national guard were giving us ammo to fit whatever gun we had and I got a case of .45 ammo and my buddy had a 12 gauge pump style riot gun and they gave him a bunch

we burned thru a lot of ammo and between us, no looters got close...

I didn't have to fire a single round. I almost got bit by a water moccasin in the kitchen of one house! Again, we only had knee deep water to deal with at the worst inside the houses. The streets in Kenner were a different story... I've never seen anything like that, and hope I never have to again. I was so tired by the time we got out of Nawlins that I couldn't sleep for two days.

I'll also never live on the beach again either after losing a home at the Outer Banks... The sound side yes, the beach side NO.:(
