The problem is seeking restitution costs money and time. That's how these predatory agencies work. To get your money back it implies you already have money to fight it. This is even true in US civil court. You need time off work, a lawyer to review the documents you signed, and possibly even a lawyer to represent you (not required in civil court but you can be sure the company will bring theirs). Bankruptcy generally does not protect criminal actions. People can probably squeeze blood from the stone by suing the people responsible directly. The veil doesn't protect you from all forms of debt collection. Predatory lending is criminal in most states in the union under usury law. This would imply that if you got a good enough lawyer you could sue the CEO/CFO/etc directly. If it's not criminal in the state they could probably find a way to sue them under dissolution law. The problem is of course, someone saddled with student debt they are struggling to pay off probably cannot pay $300/hr. for a lawyer good enough to cold press money out of a slimey CEO.
I cant believe they are people here saying that what Biden did was wrong. You think an education should cost you over $200,000. Really? Thats common sense to you people?? An education is a right isnt shouldnt the a privilege for the few. And lowering education costs doesnt mean lowering the effectiveness of the education. I know thats most of people arguments. Same with healthcare. There are plenty of other countries that give much cheaper education and health care services that are much better than America.
It's about the removal of essential stone of society - responsibility. Take it out of equation and you disrupt order. Disrupt order enough and you're in chaos. Maybe they should make an IQ test a must before lending out thousands, that would fix the thing.
In my native country all these problems don't exist. We don't live however the "American Dream". But for many students our dream is much better for them. All schools have to be registered and have to hand over the complete packages of educations they teach. Included full details about each education as certain terms have to be meet. If not the school receives no money. Students don't have to take loans as education is free ( till the age of 18 ) or very cheap for higher educations. The government pays the majority of the cost. 1 year going to a university would cost about $1,000-5,000. If the student's parents have no financial means to pay for the studies, the government pays almost everything. I know personally a Canadian man who stayed in EU after the second WW. He had a very small salary, so the government paid the full cost of his three children that all three finished university. Without interference of the government the three children would have had a job and salary at the lowest level possible. Rich and poor should have the same possibilities to succeed in life is the reasoning. As more people get a higher education, the government receives a big payback on the free education as the average salary of the students that succeed is much higher thanks to the free education. They pay much more taxes and as there are much more highly skilled workers, economy is benefiting from it to. Resulting is more taxes paid by companies.
