Hey guys I think I may have found the answer to cool the planet off a couple of degrees ! And that is to force all airlines as soon as possible to use hydrogen powered jet engines. OK a bit more to produce the hydrogen but there are NO that's right NO carbon emissions from this fuel. The only result is water vapour. This would seed extra clouds at high levels reflecting sunlight back into space. Next target would be vehicles etc. Unlimited sources of sea water to make it with renewables. OK hydrogen fuel cells are not my invention. Just needs a lot of political umph to get it up and running. Simple really
NOT a new idea. While the below comments were specifically for autos it applies pretty well to jets as well. "...Ironically, the carbon dioxide released in the process of producing hydrogen from fossil fuels cancels out any benefits to the environment. Experts say hydrogen that escapes during the production process could erode the ozone layer even further and exacerbate global warming [source: PBS]. There are other problems as well: Scientists are still struggling with the challenge of how to store hydrogen. Because it has such a low energy density, hydrogen needs to be stored and transported under high pressure -- which makes it bulky and impractical. The pressure issue compounds another issue with hydrogen energy; like gas, hydrogen is highly flammable, but unlike gas, it has no smell. Sensors must be used to detect a leak before hydrogen can combust. Another issue is the need to provide enough refueling stations to supply all the hydrogen-powered cars throughout the country. Are hydrogen fuel producers willing to put a hydrogen station on virtually every corner?..."
I wasn't proposing producing hydrogen from fossil fuels !! Renewables, hydro, nuclear etc would be plenty and all carbon free. The other problems you raise are a worthwhile burden to work on don't you think ? Filthy oil should be used as little as possible.
Conservatives don't accept new information or facts that are counter to what they think they know. This makes them, not just conservatives, but ignorant conservatives. Global cooling was a conjecture during the 1970s of imminent cooling of the Earth's surface and atmosphere culminating in a period of extensive glaciation. This hypothesis had little support in the scientific community, but gained temporary popular attention due to a combination of a slight downward trend of temperatures from the 1940s to the early 1970s and press reportsthat did not accurately reflect the full scope of the scientific climate literature, i.e., a larger and faster-growing body of literature projecting future warming due to greenhouse gas emissions. The current scientific opinion on climate change is that the Earthhas not durably cooled, but underwent global warming throughout the 20th century.[1] A common argument used to dispute the significance of human caused climate change, which has been called the Ice Age Fallacy, is to allege that scientists showed concerns about global cooling which did not materialise, therefore there is no need to heed current scientific concerns about climate change.[50] In a 1998 article promoting the Oregon Petition, Fred Singer argued that expert concerns about global warming should be dismissed on the basis that what he called "the same hysterical fears" had supposedly been expressed earlier about global cooling.[51] Illustrating this argument, for several years an image has been circulated of a Time magazine cover dated 1977, showing a penguin above a cover story title "How to Survive the Coming Ice Age". In March 2013 The Mail on Sunday published an article by David Rose showing this cover image to support his claim that there was as much concern in the 1970s about a "looming 'ice age'" as there was now about global warming.[52][53] Questions were raised, and in July 2013 Bryan Walsh, a senior editor at Time, confirmed that the image is a hoax modified from a 2007 cover story image for "The Global Warming Survival Guide".[50] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_cooling

No warming for 18 years? Someone forgot to tell the Earth, lol. Another Month, Another Global Heat Record Broken | By By SETH BORENSTEIN Posted: 10/20/2014 12:15 pm EDT Updated: 52 minutes ago "WASHINGTON (AP) — Earth is on pace to tie or even break the mark for the hottest year on record, federal meteorologists say." "That's because global heat records have kept falling in 2014, with September the latest example. "The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced Monday that last month the globe averaged 60.3 degrees Fahrenheit (15.72 degrees Celsius). That was the hottest September in 135 years of record keeping. "It was the fourth monthly record set this year, along with May, June and August. "NASA, which measures temperatures slightly differently, had already determined that September was record-warm. "The first nine months of 2014 have a global average temperature of 58.72 degrees (14.78 degrees Celsius), tying with 1998 for the warmest first nine months on record, according to NOAA's National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C. "It's pretty likely" that 2014 will break the record for hottest year, said NOAA climate scientist Jessica Blunden. "The reason involves El Nino, a warming of the tropical Pacific Ocean that affects weather worldwide. In 1998, the year started off super-hot because of an El Nino. But then that El Nino disappeared and temperatures moderated slightly toward the end of the year. "This year has no El Nino yet, but forecasts for the rest of the year show a strong chance that one will show up, and that weather will be warmer than normal, Blunden said. "If 2014 breaks the record for hottest year, that also should sound familiar: 1995, 1997, 1998, 2005 and 2010 all broke NOAA records for the hottest years since records started being kept in 1880. "This is one of many indicators that climate change has not stopped and that it continues to be one of the most important issues facing humanity," said University of Illinois climate scientist Donald Wuebbles. "Some people, mostly non-scientists, have been claiming that the world has not warmed in 18 years, but "no one's told the globe that," Blunden said. She said NOAA records show no pause in warming. "The record-breaking heat goes back to the end of last year — November 2013 broke a record. So the 12 months from October 2013 to September 2014 are the hottest 12-month period on record, Blunden said. Earth hasn't set a monthly record for cold since December 1916, but all monthly heat record have been set after 1997. "September also marks the fifth month in a row that Earth's oceans broke monthly heat records, Blunden said. "The U.S. as a whole was warmer than normal for September, but the month was only the 25th warmest on record. "While parts of the U.S. Midwest, Russia and central Africa were slightly cool in September, it was especially hotter than normal in the U.S. West, Australia, Europe, northwestern Africa, central South America and parts of Asia. California and Nevada set records for the hottest September. "If Earth sets a record for heat in 2014 it probably won't last, said Jeff Masters, meteorology director for the private firm Weather Underground. If there is an El Nino, Masters said, "next year could well bring Earth's hottest year on record, accompanied by unprecedented regional heat waves and droughts." ___ NOAA's global analysis for September: http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/global/2014/9
