I'm tried out nmap and it wasnt able to retrieve which ports I have opened. Nor my OS. I guess thats good. I'm using Norton Internet Security and the Linksys WRT54gs router. Which other methods I can try to test how secure is my computer and lan?

  3. If you've used nmap (correctly) then I wouldn't bother with the shields-up test. That's like going from an F1 race car to a Pinto.

  6. No offense, but if you have to ask, nmap is not the program you should be using.

Just use the grc.com link from the previous post. It is easy to use, has helpful(although lengthy) explanations, and my guess, will serve your needs.

BTW, nmap is somewhat limited as to what it can do when executed on WinXP localhost.
