How to start a hedge fund?

  1. This is probably a dumb question... but do I need a series 7 to be a hedge fund manager?

  2. if you want to do it in the U.S. you will have to be fully registered with the SEC.

    But.....about that 100% a year......

Seriously, it ain't gonna happen. "just knowing" it will happen won't make it happen. No amount of technical analysis will make it happen. It is wishfull thinking. Everyone who has even done that for a few years in a row has eventually been wiped out by some unforeseen event. Learn the concept "reversion to the mean". It happens to everybody, there is no way around it, there is no free lunch. Actually, if you can simply beat the s&p 500 every single year with low risk, you could become one of the biggest managers in the business and still rake in huge fees because you could take in more more money to manage. Making 10% of $100 million a year with low risk is much better than Making 50% of $10 million with high risk.

  3. hey p2,

slor dash is not accurate. you do not need a series 7 and you do not need to be "fully registered" with the SEC to start or run a hedge fund. currently that is, things can change fast !!

    enjoy,

  4. I probably shouldn't have used the word "registered" since you don't have to do the same registration as a mutual fund or a broker dealer.
