Do you understand what the term "all else being equal" means?

That's a mindset that is very American. All the power to the capitalist. Here in Canada, in Europe, Asia, and the rest of the world the other side and their arguments are also heard and have a weight. You can't choose someone else who might be lesser qualified than someone whose pink hairs you don't like. Even if both are equally qualified you must stand ready to convince a judge why you decided against another individual when challenged. Makes perfect sense to most even-keeled people.

Bullshit. Who said that? And what does it proof? Nothing whatsoever other than that an individual declared income for the previous year. That same person might be unemployed right now. If you still don't smell the bullshit then it's probably because you stand right in the middle of it.

That's the wrong term to use in this situation. LOL You need to really understand what that term means and in which context that term is used. You can't just hijack a term and twist its meaning to fit whatever agenda you crusade for. LOL

The only crusader seems to be you here. There are laws against discrimination and those laws equally apply to tenancy agreements than to hiring. There are two needed to dance a tango. You make it out as if only one side has rights. But perhaps bullies get away with this shit in the cowboy town you live in. In most other places this shit does not jive.

You still have not explained to us how a 1 year old tax record aids you in assessing someone's ability to pay rent going forward. How is someone's proof of current employment not plenty enough to demonstrate that he/she is able to pay for rent? (in fact even proof of employment is completely unnecessary if that person can demonstrate to have sufficient funds in their account; if they stop paying rent then withhold the deposit and kick them out, that's how things go in the entire rest of the world). I mean, you could of course also require a DNA test to insure this person is indeed who he/she claims to be. In any civilized country there are limits to what is reasonable. Apparently not so south of the border...

    Yes I can.

I will be a judge to decide if both applicants are equally qualified or not and the criteria do not have anything to do with money. I know what I can discriminate against and what I cannot. Bottom line is I cannot discriminate against people according to something that they cannot change, eg. their race, skin color, ethnic background, age, gender, physical disability, sexual orientation (that's actually changeable), marital status, family status, creed, religious belief and etc. but things people CAN change like smoking, I can discriminate all I want and there is not a judge in the world that will rule against me. If I advertised that I don't want a smoker to rent my place and I do my due diligence to find out that you smoke, you are not getting my place even if you are as rich as Warren Buffet. Someone else who came after you demonstrated that they are not a smoker, they will get my place. You want to waste your time and money to go boohoo in front of a judge, go right ahead. Chances are, if I am able to own a property and am making money renting it out, I have more money than you and I would be able to afford better lawyers and you will lose. You don't like it? Quit smoking or go for a place that accepts smokers? Why don't you want to go rent a place that accepts smokers? You are discriminating against landlords that accept smokers as renters? LOL

You are simply wrong. Your opinion and feelings mean nothing. The law is clear on this. Go check it out. I made my point. Don't pee on the messenger. Check the facts.

Your mindset that whoever has more money should win in court tells us everything we need to know what is wrong in the US. Money not justicia rules. Laughable. Glad I made my choice with Canada.

No you are the one who needs to be familiar with what landlords and employers can and cannot use as grounds for discrimination: https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/h-6/section-3.html#:~:text=3 (1) For all purposes, which a pardon has been

These are the prohibited grounds for discrimination stated in the Canadian Human Rights Act which should apply to the rental of a dwelling. This is the same in United States and in its various states. In nowhere it includes any arbitrary grounds like "smoking". So if you smoke, you are not renting my place. LOL

Dude if you reject a more capable candidate for a job on the grounds that he or she is a smoker or fire someone because they smoke you have a big fat lawsuit up your ass. You can't really be this dumb. Off to sleep. Good night.

It proves you have the ability to pay my rent as you claim to. True, you could very well be unemployed when applying to rent from me and I might not be able to know that until you fail to pay my rent then in that case, you get evicted.
