how to manage false breakouts on NQ ES

Discussion in 'Index Futures' started by pawpaw, May 27, 2003.

  1. First off, to anyone clicking this thread for the first time - don't be disheartened by what you see. Just go to page 24 and then let's talk if you want to. That said, back to the fun!

    You little Grooooupeeeeee!
Here's the translation: "I wish Jack would spend more time in bed with me than the others. It's really beginning to piss me off!"

    Jack here:
"No, you misconfigured the volume deficiency ratio of the Stochastic correspondence. The bo actually occured at 23:59 when Saturn kissed Mars before sliding down the volatility congestion. At 24:15 the Rocket hit the bracket and went for a walk with the 5 minute chart. The 5 min chart hasn't been seen since. Stay posted".

I know where you want to be Pal: Your hands touching your toes, with Jack pumping away shouting out loud: "It's the BO analysis, baby. Say it with me. LOUDER, c'mon. You will never reach recognition until I hear you SHREAK with VDU Efficiency Bracket Ratio ectasy"!

You're a gonner Pal. Absolutely gone.

What profit targets, similar to the $200 ES target, do you use for these two futures?

  3. The truth is that i have learned a lot from jack. If that makes me a groupie, so be it. English is not my first language and it does take time to totally grasp what he is saying. but my P&L has been increasing, so i feel it is worth the effort to understand his lingo.

I'm probably talking to myself here, but the two clauses in your sentence do not necessarily have anything to do with each other.

It is not uncommon for one's P&L to improve when trying a new method since following the new method means that you will by default not be doing so many of, or any of, the things that you had been doing that were causing you to lose money. In other words, what may be causing the improvement is not the new method itself, but the increase in focus and discipline.

Same goes for diets. You can lose weight by eating nothing but bananas. But the bananas have nothing to do with the weight loss. The weight loss is caused by your not eating all the other things that you would otherwise be eating.

    Just something to think about.

  5. Magna from earlier in this thread:

Magna: You're just a brainless groupie like the rest. With a post count above 1500 ...you're also part of the Establishment. Take ticket number 396, Jack will get to you tomorrow.

gms: Your problem? (not your fault I realise): You're American. How do I know this? because you ain't got a clue when you see humour right under your nose. I get up and call myself a moron and tell you to do the same?! That's called FUNNY. Yet you take it literally to heart. Geez, at least my yankee doodle wife laughs at me:)

What are we on, page 40 now? My method is described on Page 24 of this thread. Where is both of yours, Magna & gms? Nowhere. Therefore, piss off with your one line remarks: "Amen" Got nothing more original to say than that? Good people that want to discuss my flawed silly little method or any other genuine idea, let's keep chatting. There's always room for improvement with my sorry method. Apart from a zero tolerance for fools, I'm actually a sweet guy:)

See the problem with this board is typified in this thread. And this is a good reason why I exist. Does anyone remember "PowWow?". He's the poor sod who started this thread. Just an innocent newbie on this board asking a genuine question. Problem is, he was never seen or heard of again. Why, because the Establishment, Guru's & Groupies all showed up on mass and drowned him out.

PowWow could have said something interesting, something to help my trading. But now he's gone like so many before him. R.I.P. Killed by the Establishment with all their "Thanks Jack". "You're welcome Magna", "Love ya Ditch dude". This board is the biggest clique I've seen in my life. I need a bucket to read most threads.

As for my style: up against such an entrenched Establishment, they're just isn't any other way. Some of these people are ruthless fuckers with the newbies. Ditch comes to mind. Most nice people (I'm sure PowWow was nice) therefore just disappear quietly. Well, I ain't disappearing. The only way to stay, at least stay as myself i.e. an "individual" and not an establishment trained puppy-trained dog, is to be even more ruthless back.

Of course, Magna Moderator may expel me because he knows I'm too handle to handle. But you'll know when that happens cos the backslapping, same old same old will then resume.

I'm here defend the PowWows of this world. Oh, and to discuss some silly little method on Page 24. After all, that actually is the reason for this thread isn't it? To answer PowWow about breakout trading in the ES/NQ? What a pity he isn't here to read it. :(

  7. It's funny because you could be doing very well trading breakouts as of late. I'd prefer to be long/short on retracements within trends but opportunities are opportunities, so I'll short the low and long the high. Short squeezes are pretty cool.

  8. I use 15pts in the DAX and 10-15 in the ESTX50 (which I haven't been trading as much lately). I oiften feel like I leave too much on the table with the DAX at 15pts and could do with some improvement re: multiple contracts i.e. exit one at 15pts but hold another for a bigger target? But I haven't got the risk/reward on such ideas down to a point where I'm happy. The best move in the DAX/ESTX50 is often the first two hours in their own right i.e. 03:00am - 05:00am EST when the yanks are asleep. The first two hours of Globex are usually good too.

Have you traded on Eurex before? If not, it's like Globex except that stops are native and stop-limits are not (the other way round from ES/NQ). Plus, you have to watch the order modification fee issue i.e. only five order modifications per fill, else they charge you 50 cents per change above that. So, if I'm in a trade, I don't move my stop more than 10 times. That way, I never pay this silly fee. It's a nickel and dime policy by Eurex which I strongly dislike, but such is life.

No, in English, to tell someone to call themselves a moron, no matter their nationality, is an insult.

NRN, not going to read it anyhow.

  10. himself

    himself

To summarize my understanding of your previous posts.
    The best times:
the first 2 hrs of Europe 3am-5:00 EST-use DAX
The first 2 hours +/- of US 9:40AM-11:00AM-use DAX
The last 2 hours of US : 2;00PM-4:00PM EST-Use Globex

But when you say in your most recent post that "the first two hours of Globex are usually good too" are you referring to using Globex in the 9:40AM-11:00 AM slot, or are you referring to yet another time slot, i.e., the first 2 hours that Globex is open *after* the regular day is done, i.e., 4:45 PM -6:45 PM EST?
    Thank you.
