How to IMPROVE EliteTrader!

Discussion in 'Feedback' started by Scientist, Jul 4, 2003.

  1. The debate should end. The reason for EliteTrader's supposed demise is simple. As this site has grown it has attracted an increasingly large number of marginal traders. Also, the original members, who where proportionally of much higher caliber, have gone or have put forth their best material. Complaining about this reality... or suggesting solutions such as have been put forth thus far... only worsen the problem. This site needs to be reorganized if it is to ener its golden age. The dearth of information available is not easily accessed, but is accessible nonetheless. Were the higher quality threads and posts more easily culled from the plethora of mediciocrity available this site would be of greater value. Save this alternative, the only thing that can be done to improve this site is for members of high caliber to post only what is most valuable, to remember what made this site great to begin with, to expand and reinvent their own ideas, and to make them available to all. What goes around comes around... and carpe diem to boot - hey, why not?

And check out the Funky Meters... they rip.

The threads are all rated automatically. The rating of the tread is in correspondence to the rating of the persons.Re: threads, some of the ways that are easy to see and understand are:

    1. How fast they recede from the top of the forum list.

    2. The ratio of posts to hits. The lower the value, the less vitality and interest it has.

    3. Thread originator's name.

    4. When the carper's begin to arrive and post.

    5. Presence or absense of attachments

    6. Several absolute magnitudes (extremes) tagging stuff.

  6. Just a thought:

A rating approach may be not entirely suitable to some newly joined members who would like to ask certain questions in mind in order to learn something useful to improve their performance, or something they don't really understand.

How could we rate this group of messages?

One possibility is for elitetrader.com to have two or more groups of forums: Newly-Elite, Very-Elite, Not-Very-Elite :), Super-Elite, Hyper-Elite, Extremely-Elite, etc. A registered member could selectively join one or more or all groups.

One of the group, say the Newly-Elite group which must be 100% free memberships and without any censorship implemented, may be particularly designed for newbies who want to ash a lot of questions and exchange their interesting experiences, whether good or bad. Some Extremely-Elite members may or may not join the Newly-Elite group for providing helps, whether constantly or occassionally.

Newly-Elite members are able to only read the Extremely-Elite foruns, with writing restrictions, as membership fees of Extremely group may be charged in order to do so (censorship may be implemented according to a different set of membership rules/obligations). Alternatively some free memberships are offered to some Newly members by promotion or automatic upgrade, otherwise a Newly group member has to send a particular question through one of the moderators, if none of the Extremely members in the Newly group would like to handle the question.

Of course, a question can be set by moderators to be published on one or more groups for wider discussion.

    Enough for now :p .

You should start the "Imitation ET Classroom style board with Parliamentary procedures" of your own.

I probably would never take the time to vote for anybody's posts if there was voting on this board. The ignore button is fine, if you want to see what somebody has said that you have on ignore you have that option and somebody always, always quotes them anyhow.

I actually suggested something like that a while back but I was more interested in seeing stats on which members were being ignored the most. I got over it eventually. We could have a topic "who is on your ignore list".

I have about 4 on ignore right now, either for long rambling posts about meaningless topics (like this one) or for simply being disruptive and bullying in demeanor.
