http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=62112&highlight=insomnia About every idea regarding insomnia in the world came out in that thread. The progressive tense and relax routine outlined above always worked for me. What happens is that your thoughts are causing muscle tensions and the muscle tensions are generating thoughts. You break the cycle by just tensing and relaxing the muscles. Maybe that is why an evening workout helps many to sleep. After years of the tense and relax thing I can just think about tensing and relaxing my toes and my whole body relax!es! I lifted weights and did some butterflys on the machine last night and I don't recall anything after hitting the pillow much, next thing I knew it was daybreak and the puppy was lobbying for some dogfood. Taking some melatonin will probably do it for you too. People scoff at my magnetic pad I have between the mattress and box springs but it makes a big, big difference. It replicates the magnetic field of the earth of 4000 years ago. The only noted health benefit from those pads is some documented evidence that calcium deposits are reduced after about a year of use but basically my wife and I both felt the difference from day [night actually] one. It makes me feel like I slept 11 hours when I only did 7..
I too have problems sleeping since trading. Don't start taking sleep aids as I have, it's habit forming. If you are on the East Coast try working out in the morning first thing before you eat or trade you will be tired by 10 PM. Also eliminate the caffeine, that's includes in chocolate for desert. If you need a way to wean yourself off of caffeine, switch from coffee to green tea, and then stop. No headaches, I don't know why but it works. Stay off the computer atleast 2 hours before going to bed. Watch some boring tv, read a book, or have sex. No computer, no charts, nada. It stimulates your mind and keeps you up. Make sure you eat some carbohydrates for dinner, the increase seratonin levels, so does turkey I believe. Camomile tea used to work well for me, you should give it a try an hour before bed.
1) meditate for 20 minutes in your bed before you fall asleep. 2) get a hobby aside from trading 3) drink sleepytime 4) switch to decaf during the day
Harassment eh? Against forum policy, you should be banned you know that? You'd do well to calm down and leave me alone.
Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I got about 3 - 4 hours of sleep, not really sure. I just drank a vault so that should keep me from wanting to take a rest before going to sleep. Hopefully I'll go to bed at around 12 tonight, I'll make an effort to do so. Ahhhh!!! lol, I love trading, I do mess around with music. But I can be online all night just creating music as well, so it's tough. I love music and I love trading, 2 loves don't make it right.
Dear folks, let me give you a joke about trouble sleeping. There was a man who had a strong body and look very healthy but he admitted that he had a problem with sleeping. Then he went to see a doctor and tell his doctor about his sleeping problem. The doctor recommended him to drink a lot before going to bed and during sleeping start to count slowly from 1 to 10. The man came back home and did what his doctor said but after two weeks he returned back to his doctor and tell him that it didn't work. He still not able to fall into a sleep. Especially when his counting reach 8 or 9 he jumped out of the bed. The doctor was very wondering and ask "Why you need to wake up? Just continue to count until 10 and then sleep". The man replied "because I'm a boxer".
