How to determine the strength of a trend

    I am using 1-min and 5-min charts as well. There are many whipsaws. Which market are you trading?

    Yes. I also noticed that different markets have different properties in different time periods.

    ADX_Trader,

    I'm day trading the NQ Emini's. The 1-min for me gave too many quick / false signals and I didn't have the nerve to set a large stop on the 5-min. Plus when the 5 was wrong it was painfully slow to get me out of the trade and sometimes put me back into a position that was soon whipsawed again. The 3-min was a little slower as well for my taste.

  3. Whamo:
    How many points you are using for the stop?

    ADX_Trader;

    4 point intial stop has been working good. Break of 15 EMA as a trailing stop. Originally had it at a 4 point trailing stop but it was too close.

    4 points may be quite big for me!!!! If your reward/risk ratio is 2:1, then you need to make 8 points to achieve it. Could you do that?

  7. Hey Adx...todays a good example of how the MACD will keep
    you out of a flat market. From about 10:05 central, on, it's
    been dullsville, and the MACD hasn't gone above or below 60.

    Like almost anything on the planet, you can occasionally find Supercharts available on eBay. You can also find TS4 and TS2k. Or pony up for Omega's newest TS6.

  10. No...at least not in the U.S. Omega stopped selling their
    stand-alone software to promote their online version.

    I've heard you can still buy a copy in the U.K, and I've
    seen copys for sale on ebay, occasionally.
