"This person is on your Ignore List. To view this post click [here]" F. P. ps Have fun posting to yourself.
what part of "personally speaking" don't you understand? let me help you: it means FOR ME i find it a trash heap. there is pretty much ZERO in south east asian culture that i find attractive. but that is ME. unlike you, i am NOT claiming that that region of the world has NO culture, or, to quote your cute (but moronically misguided) phrase, that a "can of yogurt has more culture". i am simply stating -- quite uambiguously -- that i, me personally, find it completely unattractive. i would recommend that you do the same re australian (and western generally) culture. ps - whether or not "ozzies" (and i'm FAR from your typical ozzie) like scavenging it is COMPLETELY beside the point.
what the ?!? hmm, i think we might want to ask the east timorese themselves exactly which country it was that was murdering countless members of their population.... (hint: it starts with "I")
I am afraid the answer to your question won't be flattering to the former "colonials": they had to leave their home countries, either because of persecution (like the "dissenters" in England) or simply as convicts like in the case of Australia. Of course, this is simplifying, but allow me to use this for a moment: reality is much more complex! Because of that - I am trying to act like a shrink - they abandoned whatever culture they had brought along and built their own. In the case of the US, I think "The great Gatsby" is a very good book describing this lack of a culture and this thrive for building their own. In Ozzieland I am still puzzled. Probably it will take another couple of generations of Asian immigration to create some real home-bred culture. Already they have overcome their English banger-"culture"... But the "fish-n-chip-shop-culture" is still alive and well, especially in Queensland
I agree with you but not 100%! Especially I resent that approach of calculating who killed more of their own or of an ethnic minority. Imagine you are a jew and you meet with a German who starts accounting for the 6 million jews that were murdered against the Palestinians that died in their struggle. I think that's obnoxious. Why can't we just admit that there were crimes which were committed by some governments, yes, with the help of large parts of the population, and move forward? Take a young German kid who was born in 1980: he is 23 now and some people still insist he is guilty of murdering jews: that's absolutely pathetic. There is no country in this world where there were no mass murders: not one single country. The US and Australia are both as "guilty" as Germany, or, if you insist, Indonesia. Talking about Bali I take exception on your remark: it was murder, and the people (Indons and Ozzies alike ) who died there were caught in some cross-fire which even the perpetrators did not know what it was about!
daniel_m:`i would recommend that you do the same re australian (and western generally) culture.´ `western generally´= Western Australian culture generally ?
holy smokes. what a deadbeat. you expect us to believe that YOU got an MBA in switzerland? a blundering dunderhead that cannot grasp the simplest of definitions? geez... who the hell are these "former colonials"?????????? what in the world does a modern day briton or dutchman, for example, have to do with colonialism????? you know, you yourself are prime example of the ethnocentric bigotry you constantly accuse others of. your absurd (and inaccurate) simplifications that focus on a tiny narrow section of the societies you attempt to describe prove this time and time again. if you think your indonesian culture is in some way objectively superior, please, tell me about it.. i'll be all ears. lol. yeah right. a pack of musilm (indictment enough) illiterates all trying to screw each other over $2 are gonna offer anything to the world... hahahaha
hohoho. side splitting humor.. msfe (wild), you can't see any ubiquity amongst western cultures huh? you're truly pathetic. just another holier than thou ultra-liberal eurodisney, too keen to distance himself from everything he regards american, smugly pointing fingers from his little corner of the alps. you might wanna put a check on that nasty little habit -- it's obviously completely clouded your ability to see reality.
