    Well then, I'll try one more time (but only one)

    Over compensating in one area of our life..., (such as over confidence)..., simply means we are lacking in…, and trying to cover up – another area

    =============

    There is no such thing as an over abundance of confidence

    When one is confident… then one is confident – period

    =============

    Any “overage” in any aspect of our life – is simply our ego being displayed… and an attempt to cover up an inadequacy in another aspect

    Hence my reply; emotionally mature

    =============

    Now, you can agree... disagree… interpret this reply as malicious… or take it in a million other interpretations (ways)

    Or you can simply accept it … and improve yourself (iow grow up)

    =============

    As with all things – it is a choice (always)

    Honestly,

    I think you have a 'confused' way of thinking. Just like Jack H on here.

    Also, there is no way you can accurately read my emotional maturity over a screen.

  4. I disagree. I don't think redneck could have explained it any better.

    +1 for redneck

    I think RN is correct in a sense that being a prey of overconfidence means lack of self-control skill (staying in realistic and objective boundaries of perception). If he meant that, I fully agree.

    CF,

    I am not qualified to diagnosis anyone other than myself

    So I cannot.., nor would attempt it

    ===========

    What I do know.., human nature being what it is;

    When we overcompensate in one area… typically we are lacking in another

    ============

    So; could it be lack of self control?

    Reading the OP’s original post…and using a little common sense/ critical thinking – one could reasonably say – likely

    But even then.., lack of self control may only be (and likely is) a symptom…, and the actual cause – any untold number of underlying issue(s)

    Seldom have I experienced the symptom and cause being one in the same

    Hell.., I’ve even experienced where the symptom and unresolved issues were seemingly totally unrelated – yet ended up being intimately intertwined and correlated to each other

    Stuff never ceases to fascinate me

    ==============

    Bottom line;

    OP will need to peel back the proverbial onion…, see what’s actually revealed…, then resolve it / them

    And either he will own this – AND resolve it…, or…, remain forever in denial – and stuck

    Brings to mind two adages;

    Physician heal thyself… and C'est la vie

    WM02,

    Well, overconfidence is not necessarily overcompensation of something else, rather just an error in evaluation of reality, which as I wrote in my recent rant is often the case when we deal with unknown/uncertain matters.

    Like immune system, our mental/emotional abilities usually work fine, but not always, especially when we face relatively new circumstances for our specie. Sometimes our immune system may kill us, sometimes confidence may be erroneous too... and also kill (thinking about drivers who go way faster than conditions favor as an obvious example).

    You say no.. (or is that a maybe).... otoh - I say it is (overconfidence is ego running amuck)

    Fact is however..., neither of us know in the OP's case

    OP will either figure it out - and resolve... or not

    True. I just treat ego as one of our survival instruments too. Just like immunity in some situations boosting your confidence helps, but in others it may hurt.

    I agree with you that only OP surely knows which is exactly his case.
