How obsessed are you with the markets?

Discussion in 'Professional Trading' started by Sure Chap, Sep 15, 2016.

  1. I have to obsessed about something that I consider a big payoff. Something I don't mention, is the time I spend on INVENTION IDEAS...which I won't speak of on this site. I remember obsessing over statistics of baseball and football players when I was a kid, studying and memorizing all the numbers. I was playing fantasy sports before it was ever created.LOL

  2. If it's not with the market ... It's ET or it's FB or it's TWTR, Mathematica or Excel ... Got to step back. Love this quote :

Threads like this make me shudder in fear for the posters financial future.

The market holds the most attraction to those least suited for it. If u are obsessed or love the market, you will fail.

  4. You shouldn't use such absolutes in your statement. There are exceptions. I've been trading +20 years and I consider myself to be a scientist of the financial markets. I think Handel 123 would apply as well. I do agree, if a trader is obsessed and doesn't have a clue to what their doing, it can be disastrous to their account. Heck, they could have no passion for trading and not have a clue...still disastrous. Question: does obsessive drive in a trader lead to "putting the work in" that is necessary for achieving success in trading? I wonder how many put the "work" in using a less intensive approach? Just my thoughts.;)

Trading has never been my passion - trading to me is all about gaining more time to do the things I like. When my trading is over I race off to my favorite beach and hit the waves. It keeps my head in Zen mode - which helps me trade better and stay chilled out.

Agree re: job environment. I'm 'focused' on trading but nothing more. I don't know many people in traditional careers who are obsessed about Accounting, Engineering, Teaching, etc. To be obsessed in my opinion is a bit over the top and perhaps detracts from a balanced life.

Trading is not a business. Trading is one aspect of the "financial business". Obsession with trading is not a good sign for success. Obviously, there are some exceptions, but the rule is if you are obsessed with trading call 1-800-Gambler and do it NOW!
