How much part does a GPU Play in Chart ?

I mostly work with Tick Charts & continuously need to change the number of ticks meaning go from 100 tick to 100,000 Tick chart & everything in between like 575 Tick chart, 1295 Tick chart, 67,575 Tick chart etc.

Currently am using 10 Years old Dell T-7500 workstation with Xeon E5645@2.4 GHz, 12 GB RAM, Three AMD FirePro 2460 (512MB) low profile cards each with 4 miniDP ports to run 12 monitors.

Now I am getting a new Dell Workstation with i7 12700, 16 GB RAM & THREE Nvidia T-600 4 GB Graphics cards ( with 4 miniDP ports each ) to run 12 Monitors ( 1920x1200 ) with DVI ports on all monitors.

So I guess that should work fine ? I don't do any gaming or Video editing etc. Just 2 Charting applications, some news, email, web surfing etc.

    Your thoughts.

  2. That's basically exactly what they were designed for. NVS dual-port cards are excellent for trading environment.

  3. We're all curious as to how this works out... an "i7 CPU with 12 monitors".

My 2 cents, Sierra Charts has the option to use GPU and here is my current resource usage. Processor is an i7-9750H with a GTX 1650i GPU. As you can see, the GPU is working hard, but if I turn the option off, moving the charts around is sluggish, so its doing lots of work.

    Scat,
    I know what you mean.
I submitted for a quote for 5820 with Xeon 2235 a week ago but haven't heard from them & can't get thru their phone so I am keeping my options open in case this supply chain issue doesn't resolve very soon.

If you can't get that, you could buy used Xeon 2135 on eBay... virtually same specs I looked it up... save $$thousands.

    Scat & Everyone,

Can you please point out where would I suffer looking comparing two systems below ?
I am doing no gaming or Video editing. Just two trading applications & other regular stuff.

    Dell Workstation 5820

    Xeon W2235 @ 3.8 GHz to 4.6 GHz Turbo (130W )
    16 GB RAM ECC
    Win-11 Pro
    Three Nvidia T1000 4 GB 4 mDP ( running 12 Monitors )
    OS Boot - M.2 NVMe 512 GB
    950W PSU Air Cooled

    Dell Workstation 3660

    i-7 12700 @ 2.1 GHZ to 4.9 GHz Turbo, 65W OR ( i-7 12700K @ 3.6 GHz to 5.0 GHz Turbo, 125W )
    16 GB RAM Non ECC
    Win - 11 Pro
    Two Nvidia T-600 4GB, 4mDP (Runs 8 Monitors) + 4 Monitors using 2 x DP & 2 x USB 3.2 Type C (Thus Running 12 Monitors )
    OS Boot - M.2 NVMe 512 GB
    750W PSU Liquid Cooled

  8. 1. You don't need T1000 video cards. Has the same memory as T600.... 4GB of DDR6. (The P620s are adequate also... 2GB of DDR5).

    2. According to the i7 spec sheet, it will run only up to 4 monitors. If so, it's a waste of time to try to get it to run 12. According to the 3660 spec sheet, it has only ONE x16 slot. Where did you get the idea you could run TWO T600s? There are not two x16 slots on 3660 mobo. (If Dell is telling you that you can run TWO T600s, you should mention to them that the mobo has only one x16 slot and ask how you're supposed to run a 2nd one.)

Also, the i7 supports only 20 PCIE lanes. 16 of them will be used with the one video card. (Xeon W2235 supports 48 PCIE lanes.)

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/u...-25m-cache-up-to-4-90-ghz/specifications.html

Another point. You say you're going to run "12x HD monitors" (1920x1080). I'd suggest you scrap that notion and run TWO T600s on 8x, UHD monitors (3840x2160). You could run them in portrait mode and make it much easier on "space" requirements, and you'd also have more chart capability by having more pixels/resolution to work with. If you found that 8 monitors are not adequate, you could always add 4 more and another T600.

Bottom Line... forget the 3660. It ain't gonna work!

    You are absolutely right.
First it is not me but 3 different Dell Websites from 3 different countries ( US, UK & Canada ) lets you select either two Nvidia T1000 OR Two AMD Pro WX3200 GPUs.

My further research found that 3660 MOBO has one X4 slot that is open ended ( One below X16 ) so I figure that is where they will probably stick the 2nd GPU. ( See Image )
Second asking around, people say that T600 is a baby & X4 Gen4 slot will have no problem running it without much drop in performance.

Also 3660 has two DP 1.4 ports so I can get MST Hub & adapters that split DP into 4 more DP outputs to run extra 4 monitors thus total of 12 Monitors which I have & working fine & no constraint on space so I don't want to buy new ones.

The reason I am taking interest in 3660 is that (1) It has the latest technology ( 2 DP + USB 3.2 Type C + USB 3.2 Gen1 Ports ) & (2) It is 50% Cheaper than 5820 & I want to buy either of them as NEW from Dell with 3 to 5 years full warranty so I don't have to worry if anything goes wrong. Per your advice 3 years ago, I got away with my old T-7500 & I know you are doing your best to help me & I am very grateful. So if I can get away with 3660 with even 8 Monitors, it would be fine.

This is my 2 cents but you guys are experts so I would appreciate the feedback.

One more thing, would 750 Watt chassis be good enough & should I get liquid cooling ? ( System is in an A/C room )

Also Scat you usually recommend 16 GB RAM & I have been doing fine with 12 GB with my Old T-7500 but everyone recommends at least 32 GB.

  10. So... you could mount 2nd video card in open-ended x4 slot(?). That would take up all of your PCIE lanes (20)... plus, the specs for the CPU say it will support only 4 monitors. Hmmmm... Obviously somebody's (Dell or Intel) info on this is incorrect.

Your old system ran 12 monitors because it has a "workstation" CPU... Xeon. Now you're trying to run a workstation load on a gamer CPU. Not supposed to work.

If you get the 3660 and get it to run 12 monitors/not, I'm sure the board would like to hear about it.

As for system RAM... my trading rig has 8GB and when I'm running my usual trading load, I'm using only ~20% of it. 16GB should be enough for you... more can be added later if necessary.

PSU... 750w probably plenty. As for water-cooled... the i7 is a hot performer and generates enough heat to justify water... which is why Dell would recommend.
