    No I don't agree, virtually ALL welfare is wasted.

  2. Welfare fraud isn't the problem, welfare itself is the problem.

  3. Agree, especially the welfare we are all paying to the profitable, tax evading corporations. As in Oil companies and big Agriculture. Shut off the subsidies that are enormous when compared to the amount of welfare, especially welfare cheats. Tax cheats are far more of a economic insult to Americans.

  4. So you think your taxes are "wasted" on stupid things like helping the single mom with two kids who may work for minimum wage and has little or no support from relatives ? What about the DOD? Are we wasting money there? Do you have any idea what percent of taxes go to military/defense ?

  5. I may be wrong, but I, too, don't think you're that dis-compassionate, Mr. L. Some people do deserve our help. Some animals deserve to be rescued, not everyone is trying to 'game' the system. Some really need help, and charities prove that. They cannot cover everything, and we, as a Nation of good people, simply have to help. All civilized nations do.

    Yes it's wasted. The solution is simple: Don't be a single mom.

    And don't tell me that's unreasonable. Illegitimacy rates were vastly lower before the expansion of welfare than began in the 1960s.

    It would also help if we did another thing the left is absolutely opposed to -- enforce immigration law. Then poor Americans could actually find jobs.

  7. Think of welfare this way....Those people that dont want to work...at least they are at home and out of your hair. If they didnt get welfare, they would be on the side of the street begging you for money. And since they are lazy, instead of looking around for a bathroom during the course of the day while begging for your money, they would piss right in the street, so you basically could not walk down the street without the stink of urine everywhere.

    Basically, you are paying these people to not piss & shit all over the street you walk on.

    There...that should subside your anger for a while.

  8. Absolutely. The more we subsidize failure, the more we'll get. We've been WAY too "successful" at promoting it and that needs to stop... even if it means you and IQ47 having to clean toilets instead of posting endless stupidity on ET.

  10. Another way to approach the question is this ;

    "About 14 percent of the federal budget in 2010, or $496 billion, went to support programs that provide aid (other than health insurance or Social Security benefits) to individuals and families facing hardship.

    These programs include: the refundable portion of the earned-income and child tax credits, which assist low- and moderate-income working families through the tax code; programs that provide cash payments to eligible individuals or households, including Supplemental Security Income for the elderly or disabled poor and unemployment insurance; various forms of in-kind assistance for low-income families and individuals, including food stamps, school meals, low-income housing assistance, child-care assistance, and assistance in meeting home energy bills; and various other programs such as those that aid abused and neglected children. "

    So if we take a generously pessimistic wild-ass-guess that 7% of the above (which includes unemployment insurance btw) goes to the undeserving it would mean 1% of our taxes is wasted on them. Oh the horror.
