There’s plenty of volume (usually and especially in the hourly Inc/Dec markets) it’s just not traded on the CME. It’s OTC and the short term markets are controlled by the Regional Transmission Organizations which are regulated by FERC.
Thanks for the info bone. I posted this as I genuinely have an interest in finding out more about electricity trading. Seems though like it a harder game to get into than I first thought. My interest in futures is simple, make money and limit risk. I am new to all of this, and have only used demo accounts so far. Probably the most reliable demo I have used so far was Gain Capital futures OEC trader, which produced very good results for me, all with realistic targets. Other demo accounts, such as Firetip platforms, have produced results with system glitches. So I am trying to wrap my head around it all, but right now my main interests are spreads and anything exotic with a possible entry. Thanks
A well capitalized firm or a fantastically wealthy individual could conceivably make eight figures a day trading electricity. Or Treasuries. Or Stocks.
The only way to make money and limit your risk is to make very good risk vs reward entries and to take clean well-controlled losses. You are certainly on the right track with spread trading. Exotics are fine but they’re also a double edged sword in terms of liquidity traps and capital requirements. I wish you good fortune!
Using spread trading with futures(mostly treasuries) on the OEC trader demo, I made 23 million in a week. And supposedly the OEC demo trader is connected to the live markets too. So far that is the best result I have had in any demo. The rest were flimsy and glitchy tbh.
Sarcasm much?? This was back in March, it was during a period of high volatility I'm guessing. That happens in the futures markets at times.
No sarcasm here. Just do it next week and retire. "...on the OEC trader demo, I made 23 million in a week. And supposedly the OEC demo trader is connected to the live markets too..." Either you are suggesting it can be done, or you are suggesting it cannot be done. If you feel it cannot be done live, why mention what you did in demo? If you feel what you did in demo can be done live, then do it! Make the monies! Else you are wasting everyone's time here. *shrugs*
I believe it can be done in live yes. The OEC trader is reputable, and I have actually spoken with them and asked if live and demo correlate and they assured me they do. Some of the other demo accounts I have used, as I previously mentioned, clearly have glitches and unrealistic results. The main reason I believe OEC trader is more reliable, is because it does not fill orders on the first go sometimes, depending on liquidity etc. And also because the prices match up with charts and live data. Never once did I get an unusual fill at a far out price. Also, I lost and blew a few demos on the Gain/OEC platform before I made the 23 mil on one.
How and what did you trade when you made the 23 mil? It kinda sounds like it can be faulty demo again in my my ears..
