how much do you get actually lending out short if you own shares?

    you know the rate, or any quoted in %, is annualized. if you just want to do a short term bet, it is manageable.

    If you think that is theft, then go and try to loan the shares yourself without a broker.
    Do you think they should do the transaction for free?

    Those stock lending programs don't pay much at all

    Thats why I'm curious about the actual mechanics of the transaction,and why I'm hoping Mr Morse will chime in with how his brokerage handles short sale credits.

    Yes but what is VOO's CTB/SLB fee? 0.25% ? (I'm guessing). Quite a difference from the 1014% fee on GNLN.

    Large short interest

    Why would a lot of people short a stock?
    Because they believe it will crash.

    Who is the bag holder if it crashes?
    You.

    Doesn't sound like an easy way to make money to me.
