Most of the traders quit trading in their first year when they suffer losses but you have shown ultimate patience.

A simple trading strategy can be learned within 2 or 3 days. You can then demo this for 1 or 2 months and be reasonably competent. Selecting a simple strategy that works via trend-following and by avoiding day-trading should lead to being profitable after 3 months of trading.

How many years does it take for one to be successful in forex trading?

It range from few months to infinity (ie cannot make it).

Those perfectionist who want everything to be in order and perfect and nicely arranged will find trading very challenging.

  5. Fully agree with you. If a person is completely devoted to his pursuit of learning to trade forex then it might take him less time. However the duration taken to learn forex is not carved in stone for everyone and it should not be taken as a measure of someone's success or aptitude. Everyone'e got their own ace and way!

You'll hear the same reason over and over why someone on ET wants to get into Forex..."because it trades 24 hours". No, the predominant reason someone really wants to trade Forex is because he doesn't have enough money to trade the best futures contracts in the world.

These people can't even afford to trade the cheapy $500-$1500 futures margins at AMP, etc. So they're willing instead take their itty bitty money and chop it up into 5-12 currencies in an unregulated market rife with corruption?? (FXCM got caught in the US...who knows what who gets away with on a regular basis outside the US).

And then there's the CFD crowd in Europe. There's very good reasons why they're illegal in the US. It's a 21st Century bucket shop.

It took George Soros at least 4 years before he recovered his losses.

If you want to learn everything about forex trading, it will take forever as there is so much to learn that by the time you've absorbed it, things have changed and you now have more learning to do.

How long does it take to make a consistent profit?
3 months, including 3 days to learn a simple long-term strategy and 1 month of demo trading and chart study.
