I am trying to figure out the minimum amount of time I should hold on to option spreads without falling into any "special" category. It appears that if I hold them overnight (open a position on one day and close it the next day), I would not fall under the "pattern day trader" rule. Can some one confirm this? So, is overnight holding the minimum requirement? Also, are there any other implications/restrictions/gotchas in how long you should hold positions? I am only concerned about trading laws. thanks for your help
