Big boys including, hedge funds do not buy it all at once but, slowly, so as not to make the share prices rise too much. Probably, 6 months atleast. For smaller stocks, it might take 3 months if there is not a lot of shares. That is why it is in a trading range. When, it breaks out and starts moving, you know it is on.
Small Caps take longer to accumulate due to liquidity issues. Hedge Funds and Momentum Funds love to break-out stocks. Buy high, sell higher.
