Agree with clubber. Lets see Johnny win a Super Bowl in his first 2 years. Russell Carrington Wilson (born November 29, 1988) is an American football quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). Wilson was selected by the Seahawks with the 12th pick in the third round (75th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft.[2] Wilson played college football for the University of Wisconsin during the 2011 season, in which he set the single season FBS record for passing efficiency (191.8) and led the team to a Big Ten title and the 2012 Rose Bowl.[3] Wilson received the Big Ten Quarterback of the Year award and was named a consensus first-team All-Big Ten and third-team All-American by Yahoo! Sports.[4] Wilson played football and baseball for North Carolina State University before transferring to Wisconsin. In 2008, he was named the ACC Rookie of the Year in football and became the first freshman quarterback to receive first team All-ACC honors. Wilson also played minor league baseball for the Tri-City Dust Devils in 2010 and the Asheville Tourists in 2011 as a second baseman.[5] Wilson signed a four-year, $2.99 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks on May 7, 2012 and was named the team's starting quarterback on August 26, 2012.[6][7] In 2012, Wilson led the Seahawks to the divisional round of the NFL playoffs and was voted the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year.[8][9] Following the 2013 season, Wilson led the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl win in the team's 38-year history.
I'm not knocking Russell Wilson at all. He has an amazing feel for the game, plus he uses just the right blend of running and scrambling. He's short for a QB but very solid and seems to be at far less risk for injury than a guy like RGIII who is faster and bigger but not as solid. Wilson however has been lucky to be on extremely good teams. Wisconsin was good before he got there. He was the cherry on top, courtesy of the idiot N.C. State coach who had a my way or the highway approach to Wilson playing baseball. That would be the ex N.C.State coach, since he got fired shortly afterwards. Seattle had a great foundation as well and a great coach. Give them credit for recognizing Wilson's talent when others didn't. If Wilson had been drafted by say Cleveland or Buffalo, I doubt we're having this conversation. Manziel is the kind of prospect that can make a GM glad he doesn't have a high pick and be forced to deal with him. I disagree that it is inevitable that he is a bust. I think the odds are, with the right coaches and system, he could be another Brett Favre. Any guesses as to when he comes off the board? I saw the NFL Network's mock last night and they had him number two to St. Louis. Didn't make much sense to me. If I'm Houston, i'm picking Clowney. Will he be the first QB? Two months ago, everyone said Bridgewater. Now, he may not even go first round. Sheesh, what a business.
If I were Houston, I would either take Clowney or trade down a couple of slots and pick up an extra first or second rd pick and take best available then maybe Carr or Bridgewater with that extra pick. This draft is deep, so getting extra picks can really pay off, especially since there are so many question marks around most of the top 10 or so players. Let's not forget, Houston isn't your usual crappy "first pick" team. They are pretty loaded and are in "win now" mode so it's hard to see them take a project like Manziel. As for Manziel, I think someone trades up with either the Rams or Jags and takes him at 2-3. I think the Rams want Clowney and if he's gone they move down and hoard extra picks. The Jags just plain suck and will screw up whoever they take, so it won't really matter.
I tend to agree although I don't see Manziel as a development guy. He is more polished than RGIII, who did very well his rookie year. People think RGIII ran the ball a lot but most of his gains came when he broke the pocket on passing plays. When defenders have scattered into coverage, a guy as quick as Manziel can really rip off some yards. Eventually he will get hurt though. He' s just too small. Most QBs seem to get hurt on pocket sacks however. They're exposed and can sustain shoulder or rib injuries when driven into the ground. The safe picks at the top of the draft this year seem to be the offensive tackles and a couple of receivers. Clowney could be great or a bust. Khalil Mack is being touted but he didn't play the same level of opposition as Clowney. If I am running Houston, I probably take Clowney, but I wouldn't blame them one bit if they took Greg Robinson.
Sammy Watkins is probably the "safest" non lineman pick in the top 10. The kid is a freak. The total package at WR. Also, I really like Darquez Dennard at CB in the mid 1st and Jordan Matthews WR as a late 1st rd steal. He will be like the 5th or 6th WR taken in the first rd in a loaded WR class. Some other thoughts- Michael Sam will not be drafted and the liberal media will scream foul because he's gay. Fact is his 40 time was atrocious, his bench was awful, he's not very athletic, and his height/weight makes him a DE/LB tweener. He's simply not that good of a prospect and not worth the headache of having a knob gobbler in the locker room. This WR class has the potential to overtake the 1996 draft as the best ever (1996-Marvin Harrison, Terrell Owens, Keyshwan Johnson, Terry Glenn, Eric Moulds, Moushin Muhammed, Amani Toomer, Joe Horn). Bishop Sankey is going to be a great pro RB and he probably won't be one of the first 3 RB's taken.
I agree. good points. I don't know anything about Sankey though. I read an article about Sam yesterday that practically said the NFL was obligated to draft him to prove they were progressive and tolerant. It's an issue that is far more important to the media than fans. It's a great year if you are a GM looking for WR talent. There are plenty of freaks at other positions as well, like Ohio State LB Ryan Shazier. I'm a Redskins fan and will have to wait until pick number 34 for them to screw up. There will be some outstanding players on the board then, and they will face the old question of need versus best player available. They need an OT and there is a lot of speculation they wil get Morgan Moses, but if a real freak WR like Kelvin Benjamin is there, how could you pass on him?
I have no idea where manziel will go, and I don't pay all that much attention to the draft.. but there's too much russell wilson love going on here. it's making me queasy. i hate the seahawks just to get that out of the way. Comparing his college stats to manziels' is unfair. The SEC is just better than the ACC or big ten. manziel thrived in a much more competitive environment, and only played 2 seasons. I don't have a clue how he'll do in the nfl, i think that has more to do with the squad he ends up on. But imo, he has all the tools to be a fucking star. He doesn't strike me as a fragile player either, he has half back - like instincts and seems able to run hard while soaking up the damage. Is he gonna get away with the wild stunts he pulled in college, probably not. Will have success running, yes. Wilson does, Kap does, Cam does, RG3 does, teblow did, vick did etc. Am I saying wilson is bad, no. But let's be real, he is on the best team in football, amazing D, solid rushing attack, and he really doesn't have to do that much. I have seen him make sick plays and I agree that his decision making is good, really good, which might set him apart a bit from the other young QBs like kap or cam for now, but I think calling him a HOFer is a stretch. I still think Luck is the best of the young QBs, yeah he has more picks and you could say he is sloppier, but he needs to do more in order to give his team a chance to win. He has to take more risk. Except for RG3, the other young guys are on very good teams, the colts just aren't all that good. Basically I see it like this: If you exchanged Wilson and Luck for the last two seasons, would the colts be 11-5 or better each year? i don't think so. Would the 'hawks still have a ring? I think so.
I think 2nd round, low. he's quick and has good touch but he looks small on the college field. he'll be a peanut in the nfl. he doesn't seem to throw over the middle much and when he does it hangs a bit or so it seems =weak arm. I'd start him at halfback till he blows his knees.
http://www.businessinsider.com/browns-qb-study-bridgewater-2014-5 The Cleveland Browns desperately need a quarterback, so they commissioned a $100,000 analytics study to help them with the No. 4-overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
I live here in ND country and i couldn't help but notice that it seemed like a replay of Brady Quinn waiting for the 22nd selection to get picked by the Browns. eerie
