Tampa said... 1. "They are little boys who never grew up." 2. "With very few exceptions, the so called champions you adore are pompous, self-centered, ego maniacs. Pathetic human beings with a grossly exaggerated sense of self-worth." 3. "The only thing they have to teach us is how not to live oneâs life." Now Tampa... Are you a little boy that never grew up since you were a starter on your athletic teams? If you have grown up...then your above statement is false Most of the world's charitable foundations are funded by athletes and by those that had played sports at one time or another in their life...and some of them are manage by former champion athletes. Thus, "most" have a sense of self-worth or else they wouldn't be involve in such charitable organizations, events, foundations to raise future leaders and so on. I have a niece that's a straight A student in college...she's poor and being financially supported by what you consider to be "exceptions" when in reality...such help is the norm. Most athletes give back in a positive way...few don't. Not the other way around. Thus...your second statement is therefore false As for your third statement I posted above...that's obviously an emotional statement with no merits...no need for me to dig into it a little deeper Every high school teams, junior national teams I've played on...had a few exceptions that were bad characters. Because of such few...it would be a little silly for me to assume "all" or a "majority" were the same. To do so...would include you also Or have you not figure that last one with all your statements. Simply...all those comments about the ills of athletes and sport and what it produces...doesn't that apply to you also? If not...why not? You were a starting center....right? I'm done with this thread because I no longer can think about any more counter-debates. Your more than welcome to have the last word. As Nike saids...just do it. NihabaAshi
i think we all know obnoxious ex jocks whose lives are perfect. but those people rarely make it as out and out traders. usually their success has to do with being part of a going institution. Not always, of course. some obnoxious people really make it. But trading seems to be the great equalizer, smashing egos along the way. The way a champion thinks isn't limited to athletics -- the field just provides ample and visible examples. There are some terrific examples of winning mindset among athletes. But, there champion writers, doctors, lawyers (yes, I think there must be at least a few), fathers, y'know, add your own: __________. It's a mindset. A commitment to excellence and overcoming whatever is thrown at you. Including crooked specialists and faulty technology.
Oh, woe is me. Guys, can you find it in your hearts to forgive me? How dare I speak unkindly of something that means so much to us as a people â athletic competition. Itâs true, I am but an embittered man, who never really made the team. I fibbed about having started. In fact I was cut on the first day of tryouts. And I have not been the same since. I go about my pathetic existence-speaking ill of athletics wherever, and whenever I can. I cannot stand the good that sports brings to the community, nay, the very Universe. Were it not for sports, life would be unbearable. All that you accuse me of is true. I was the equipment manager â I failed to make the cheerleading squad as well. I did indeed sneak a peak, as you have accused me of doing. I am less of a man for my inabilities. I am, and will continue to be a failure at all that I try. How foolish it was of me to attempt to conceal these deficiencies from the likes of you. Yes, yes I am bitter. Oh how I long for the respect that a successful athletic career would have bestowed upon me. It kills me to admit that the World would be worse were it not for the champions who not only work for good every waking moment, but inspire the rest of us to achieve excellence. I hang my head in shame for allowing my embittered prejudice to show â for trying to besmirch the obvious benefits derived from athletics. With this admission I will now slink back into the obscurity I so rightly deserve, and allow the discussion of how only good can come from emulating our champions to continue without my poorly disguised bigotry.
Where Champions are made....... cmon everyone makes a valid point...there are Champions in every field and walk of life...as chasinfla has said...I consider Tiger Woods a champ not a chump....Just as I consider Fastow/Ebbers chumps not champs.....But you have to admit Tampa, sports does bring much more value overall than you care to admit....Dont only look at Profressional Sports...I can't tell you how much The Boys Club and all the sports they offered me as a youngster helped me out in my journey through life.......peace and Happy Thanksgiving all......
ahhh ...irony tampa a trope which enables incongruity to dwell between a would be champion and his cause, especially when used as a shot at goal in the heat of discussion.
Irony? Or could it be too many blows to the head as a center and a catcher? One interesting fact: The majority of gays who try out for football request the position of center. Something about the quarterback and where he places his hands.
oh Opti, how I long for the day when you stand behind me with your hands in that special place - oooohhhh, it just give me vapors...
oh Opti, you do think like a champion - did I ever tell you that you are my Champion? I dream of huddling with you...and from all that you have said, I know that you think the same thoughts of me...
