Agreed. Meditation might help with impulse control/discipline but without having an edge, you can meditate until the cows come home and you will still lose.
Something about coming back to the milk barn? Perhaps this can be my mantra "When will the cows come home, when will the cows come home...."
Years ago when I was a professional bowler, I used to hang with an old-time bowling character.. who liked to say, "the mind is the devil's weapon". Certainly true in the markets... likely even more so. IOW... you want (even desperately) success and fear losing. Everybody has that. Those conflicts can paralyze a trader both mentally and physically. Likely can't win the trading game until you get your head straight about it.
Yes. That's 5:00P M.... that's when "the cows come home". When I was a kid, one of my uncles had a dairy farm. I used to spend some time with them in the summer, and one of my chores (besides "shoveling shit"... literally) was to "go get the cows and bring them home". The pasture was down the road, and I was to go get them and get them back to the barn... at 5:00 PM.
Ummmmmm. The cows come home because their udders hurt, and they need to be milked. That be way early in the morning. Thus, "You're goin' to town?? Well, we won't see you til the cows come home!" means, you're not expected to return til sun-up.
It's nearly impossible to "empty the mind". Simply sit and give no energy to any thoughts that pass. Focus on breath and calm, with practice the mind becomes calmer and more focused over time. Day trading requires one to be in the moment-recognize the signal and trade the plan- not fretting about past mistakes or worrying about what might happen. Meditation is good for trading as well as life at large.
