How do you explain US exceptionalism over the last 75 years?

People really don't understand what university education entails I find. The university is not designed to teach you specific skills or some particular trade skills. You have community college or trade/vocational schools for that. A university education rather is more of an experience and an academic exploratory journey in discovering what's out there. It's an intellectual discourse with oneself and others on subject matters that have always intrigued you. It opens your eyes to knowledge about things that you have always known to be out there but never had a chance to learn about them. Of course the Bachelor's level only teaches you the basic level of knowledge; it opens the door sorta speak to the realm of knowledge and leads you in and if you want to learn more in-depth about a particular subject, then you would have to pursue the graduate level.

At the same time when you are pursuing your university education, you also get trained on many vitally important and useful skills that are applicable to no matter which job you take in the future. These skills include but not limited to professional writing, time management, priority-setting, interpersonal, project management and coordination skills. These skills will prove useful even if jobs are replaced by AI because these skills are universal. And you don't actually take courses or actually pursue a degree to learn these skills. These skills are acquired during the process of you pursuing your degree. And these skills are especially important if you want to run a business.

This is basically what a university education is about.

What's wrong with elite institutions being supposedly whiter and more Asian? They never had affirmative action programs to ensure the music and sports industry to not become "blacker". How many white or Asian rappers do you see?

That may be true so long as you ignore the very convincing statistics that say otherwise. But of course one has to be careful to compare oranges with oranges and not apples with oranges.

California removed affirmative action from college entry criteria decades ago, so it's a template of what is to come elsewhere in the country.

https://datausa.io/profile/universi...lation at,Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islanders.

In the last couple of years, UC Berkeley decided to remove SAT scores from their admission criteria, a move seen as favoring non Asian. The emphasis is now placed on grits, determination to succeed. This subjective selection process looks at family background, their education and socio economic level, the quality of the school the student attended, their drive to improve their condition.

It's too early to say if this new selection approach will lead to better outcomes for the university in terms of graduations, further education into graduate programs and impact of alumni on careers and furthering knowledge in general.

At least this top university is challenging the notion of meritocracy based solely on grades, which is based on memorization and speed of delivery. Asians usually excel because they go from school to after school enrichment programs to AP classes, all of which emphasize memorization and speed.
However, I believe Asians, whose entire focus for their kids from birth is admission to the best possible university, follow the requirements of the moment and will adjust to the new entry criteria any which way they can and UC Berkeley will continue to select predominantly Asian kids.
