  2. Would you rather have a 1% chance of turning $1,000 into $100k in one year, or a 80% chance of turning $1,000 into $100k in 10 years?

Trading in short time frames as in day or months...

I've never heard of someone starting with $1000 and then turning it into $100,000 in one year.

Yet, the fact that you're curious about such...have you ever heard of someone doing such ?

P.S. I don't consider trading short time frame with the word as in months. Thus, most people I know that use the phrase "short time frames" are usually talking about short time frames less than 1 hour.

  5. I think the only answer for the OP is, you have to figure it out for yourself. I'm sure there are a few people that have traded up 1k into 100k, but they're most likely not lurking around here, and if they were, they probably wouldn't answer, as the answer would go into such great detail and be too time consuming, and that time is probably better spent elsewhere. You might get lucky and find the one guy/girl that finds joy in spreading his/her secret. The only way really is to find a strategy that has stood the test of time and backtest it. Even still, the backtesting can yield far better results than reality.

Time frame is irrelevant compared with having an edge in knowing of a pattern that repeats and can be exploited. Long term patterns play out in shorter time frames and vice versa. The key is being able to discover/determine such a pattern that you see repeating over time.

Once you have such a pattern "edge" to trade by (likely through years of analysis plus serendipity), it just becomes a matter of scale- the more your profit, the larger your next trade can be while still keeping the same risk parameters. Your gains should increase in speed with the more you're able to accumulate as long as you are trading in a sufficiently liquid market that can easily absorb your trades.

IMHO - Your only real hope would be to buy and hold a micro cap biotech stock breaking out of a real long & tight range - you will have to be incredibly lucky and have a lot of discipline to ride it up and to exit if it goes against you to far. If you keep a reasonable stop loss you will get several whacks at this. Active trading would be ludacris on an acct of this size. Good luck.

  10. A long time ago, I met this multi- millionaire and I asked him how did he made his millions. He said he did not. He said, he was a shoe sales clerk in a department store and one day this beautiful young woman came in to buy a pair of shoes. He told me that, he rubbed her feet very gently, while putting the shoes on her feet, and asked her for her number before she left the store; went on a date after wards, got married and few months later, her mom died and left her millions in inheritance and that is how I became a millionaire :sneaky:
