How do I Choose before Dell Ships Workstation

  1. These types of computer questions are weird,
I mean, you could trade using a Windows XP computer from 2005...and make a million bucks a year from that PC.
You could also use a Windows 98 computer from 1997....and still make a million bucks a year from that.

Don't be so obsessed and anal with technology. A trader should instead understand the market and themselves and the overall picture that is unfolding, happening, and expecting. If you can truly digest and absorb the latter, you will have profound market riches.....while all the other, average/failed, traders are drooling over tech specs of their desk setups,

I had the same Microphone issue when I bought their Workstation 3660 with Win-11 Pro 3 months ago.

It took 7 Dell engineers & 2 months of time to resolve it. I think it is just some kind of settings in Device manager under sound. I wish I knew more but it does work. Post your issue & I am sure someone will help you.

I still sent it back & have ordered Workstation 5820.

But they are advising not to order Win-11 with 22H2 because they say it is unstable.

They say just go with Win-11 without 22H2.

Anyone has any issues with Win-11 with 22H2 ?

22H2 was only released 2 weeks ago. Only about 20% of Win 11 users have updated to 22H2

  4. Probably good advice.

Personally, I require an "update version" to be out for a minimum of 1 year before I'd consider installing on my rig.... give 'em time to find and fix flaws. I go for 90 days delay (max offered) on other updates, too.

So if it were me, I'd choose the "oldest" version of Windows they offer. (I'm still using W10, v1909.) Yes, W11 is "faster", but I'll take reliability over speed any day.

Scat, I was waiting for your advice.

Now can you tell me of the following two choices of installing OS which one should be chosen ? I don't even know what they are saying in the second choice.

    Here they are :

    • Load a generic/ready Image
    • Or
    • Load an Image: WIM; Ghost; ISO; or ImageAssist.

  8. I don't know which would be better. Perhaps have Dell explain before choosing?? Just off the top of my head I think I'd choose the generic/ready image... but then you might not be using Dell Update function for updates and would have to rely upon Windows Update.

I understand that you're not all that tech savvy, but nonetheless you'll need to do something about "backups" for your system, not just data. I'd recommend you get 1 or 2 extra SATA III drives at a minimum and "clone" your system from time to time. Comes in handy sometimes and is easy to do with free software. Once you get your rig I can guide you to get started.

Just talked to him an hour ago.

Until yesterday he was saying it is Windows-11 Pro for Workstation and the quote they gave me says clearly Windows-11 Pro for Workstation ( 6 Cores ) but when I asked him again today, he said it is Win-11 Pro Vanilla because he sensed that is what I wanted.

Even Website says it has to be Win-11 Pro for Workstation.

But it seems the guy is in a hurry & keeps calling to give him the permission to send the order to factory for production. I have already paid for it but they still need my permission because I chose their " ProDeploy " & onsite installation because I didn't want to go thru what I did last time with 3660. So I have to choose from various options as to what I want to be installed. I told him I will get back to him & need one more day. Here are the options he sent me in an email :

    • Load a generic/ready Image
    • Load an Image: WIM; Ghost; ISO; or ImageAssist.
    • Custom BIOS configuration
    • BIOS Logo Flash - Please provide us with the logo preferably in black background in BMP format (256 color) with a resolution of 640 x 480 upto 2 mb size.
    • Asset Label/Tagging – samples below.
    • Standard Asset Report
    • Onsite Installation

    What do you think ?

  10. I'm sorry, I still don't know. Perhaps the Dell guy can explain the difference between Plain Vanilla, WIM, Ghost, ISO, Image Assist and how each would work for you. I think those are ways you can restore your system to function should it be corrupted. Dell is going to put a "restore partition" on your drive which you can access to get a fresh install of Windows OS if/when you need it. I think they are asking you, "which one do you want"? (When I had my 5820, I deleted the Dell version that came on the machine and replaced it with the Microsoft generic version of W10.)
