I worked as a consultant (Read: Temp) at a wall st firm for 10k per month. Saved up 20k and deposited 5 at a trading firm. I'm 25 and live way below my means.
December, week of Christmas holiday. I go into Shogun casino on Carnival Valor, I saw the dealer at the blackjack and fun 21 table. I take money from the blackjack and fun 21 table. *J/K of course, but I did take about 250 away from the casino, only to spend it on other things, lol. Lucky for me, the trip was paid by my sister's husband as a graduation gift, otherwise I don't think I would have been able to fund a prop account so easily. *I probably would not have gone...* Anyways.................. With about 1k *if you negotiate*, you can go to a prop shop and you can day-trade. Barrier for entry if a person REALLY wants to trade seriously, they can go to a prop shop and trade equities. I think a better question is, how do you sustain personal living expenses while day-trading while not holding another job? You have to have a part-time deal then. But to start trading, it isn't that hard to do it. Futures even, you have 2k, you can fund an account. 5k for Forex with 100,000 minimum trading. Now, 5 to 10+ years ago, I don't know what the barriers to entry would have been, but I'm glad I came along at a time where it was easy to get in, because if there were any differences, I don't think i'd be here right now. Thankfully the cost to play is going down, but it's a tricky business.
