    I didn't search very long but I found an interview where Simons mentioned that he started out hiring people who knew nothing about finance. He says it just after the 33:00 mark on the video below. He never said that they never hired traders with a finance background later down the road though. But when I read the two books mentioned earlier in this thread it gave the same the same impression that the people who were designing trading strategies were trained math and computer scientists.

    You have to make the money before you have a need for saving the gains from the IRS. The tax professionals are indeed talented, but the trading program is what sets Renaissance apart from the rest of the funds.
