Nope. That's not how our republic was founded. Go read the founders. They didn't want a monarchy and our "leaders" are supposed to be our servants. I agree the tendency is for power to corrupt and centralize, but that doesn't mean it's right or we should accept it. In the end, if enough of us refuse to comply and go along with their totalitarian ways, they'll lose their grip.

Unfortunately, sources of false and misinformation are rampant -- a downside of the internet I suppose. We each have to learn which sources are typically reliable, and which are not.

  7. "Insider trading by a member of Congress is a crime."

I suspect that getting answers about insider trading in Washington depends on which party is in power, at the time.

If insider trading is not currently illegal in Washington, those buildings need to be shut down immediately.
No Brokerage house in the U.S. allows this stuff.
And I mean from Goldman Sachs on down.
They have compliance officers who monitor trading activity of ALL employees.
If you hide anything, grounds for dismissal.

Banning members of congress from trading is foolish. They can rightfully say that they have to be therefore compensated at a much higher rate since they can't invest their money. Should we pay them a million bucks a year in lieu of taking away their trading privelages?

All that has to be done is their trades need to be disclosed in a very timely manner (ie. next day). Then the rest of us can easily just follow them. If we see their trades line up with their area of influence, the citizens can punish them publicly, or just enjoy the gravy train.

We don't move forward as a society if we just make more and more rules. The government cannot keep up with enforcing the rules that we already have. So just make what they do strictly transparent and that will be good enough for me.
