Delivering a hard-fought victory in President Obama's yearlong pursuit of a national healthcare overhaul, a divided House narrowly approved legislation Sunday night that could reshape the way Americans deal with wellness and illness.

House Democratic leaders proved they could hold the majority caucus together, passing the Senate version of the healthcare legislation, 219-212, after weeks of arm-twisting and politicking.

A reconciliation package of amendments was also expected to pass the House on Sunday night. That measure, which will resolve disagreements between the House and Senate bills, will have to go to the Senate under a "budget reconciliation" process. It can be passed by a simple majority and cannot be filibustered.

    Ja,

Imo the US just became a more conscionable place. Major kudos of the highest order to people that made this work in Washington DC.

Now don't let the cost get out of control, and don't let it turn into the debacle that is social security, i.e., bankrupt. It must be carefully accounted for each year with conservative accounting. Don't let people abuse it either, e.g., every time a kid sneezes and shows up in the ER.

  3. Thank you President Obama and Speaker Pelosi

Obama has my vote in 2012

All Democrats have my vote in 2010

If Pelosi runs for national office she has my vote

  9. I hate pelosi with a passion. And I think that the Dems will be out next november and Obama will be re-elected in 2012. Let's face it guys.. The GOP din't bring nothing solid to the table to prevent this bill.

  10. Maybe with the new health reform all of the old people will be pushed into gas chambers with people screaming "Yes we Can"!

"ObamaCare , now you don't have to grow old because we will kill you".
