Yes. Obviously the upper/lower limits are rather easy to fix, but for me the mean/median is always a kind of squint at it and say "that looks about right."

Actually it's more the opposite. The most important element is the median. One then looks at how far away from that median price travels, which is why the limits suck as support and resistance. This morning, for example, we sailed through 4100 like a hot knife through butter. Therefore, what price does in the minutes thereafter becomes even more important in terms of whether or not one should exit (see my post to gears' journal).

Before moving on from this median/mean/halfway business, I should remind those who are interested that the NQ is not an independent instrument. Like the Nasdaq and the NDX, it moves as it does because of the stocks of which it is composed, particularly the ten most heavily-weighted. I see no advantage, however, in monitoring ten stocks in real time in order to determine where and when one should enter or whether or not one should enter at all since they will all be moving in different directions at different rates. Those who are puzzled, however, by the sometimes violent movements at the NY open would do well to remember that these are the result of activity in the underlying, which do not trade 24/5.

Other than 40D, I know of no one who is trading the SLA intraday. Therefore, the only people who need to be concerned about this are those who are observing it with the intent of eventually trading it intraday. Otherwise, it isn't pertinent. Those who do intend to trade it intraday will most likely be happiest by trading the NQ -- or the ES, YM, etc -- as if it were independent since by the time one has consulted all of the underlying and correlated instruments in order to make a decision, the trade is long gone.
