New York City has some of the most stringent and restrictive handgun laws in the nation. Nothing short of a national ban on handguns would make a dent in the illegal use of handguns.(I do not advocate that) And such a law might take 100 years to reduce handguns as there are already more than 100 million handguns in circulation in the USA. Let's face it. We are a very violent society People are offing each other all the time. This one is just much more sensationalist. And this guy wasn't gay. A gay guy would have made the attack much more personal and interactive, like smashing his victim's head in repeatedly with a hammer.
NY and particularly NYC already have draconian gun control laws. More gun control is unlikely in virtually all of the rest of the country. Gun control has proven to be the third rail of politics. Democrats blame it for costing them the congress in 1994 and are unlikely to make that mistake again. Ironically, the more likely an Obama reelection becomes, the more people will stockpile weapons and ammo.
So? We will never stop all this violence, but it can be reduced. Yes, it can. Don't focus on the one particular incident of the day. Focus on the whole picture. People are way fed up with this nonsense. How many killings will there be next week? Maybe you're too young to know who Bob Dylan is. Go to YouTube and put in "Bob Dylan these times are a changin". In case you haven't looked on your radar the last 20 years, the USA is no longer a conservative country. Be advised, brother AAA, "these times, they are a changin." However, "ironically", I do agree with your last sentence. They best get 'em while they can.
People will always kill each other. You know what weapon killed the most people in history? Give you a hint...its not a gun. It was the Roman short sword.
