you shouldn't get shin splints if you: 1. Get a quality pair of running shoes. 2. Slowly build up your mileage. 3. Run on grass, trails or dirt roads 4. Try to stay away from sidewalks, pavement, tracks or treadmills. 5. Vary your workouts and run different routes.
Thanks for all the replies. I am going to try a few suggestions and will report back what works. If anyone else has any, feel free to add. Thanks again.
They actually have a Sleepytime Extra which has Valerian...Valerian was mentioned by another poster earlier. http://www.celestialseasonings.com/products/wellness-teas/sleepytime-extra.html
Careful with melatonin (imo). The dosage in even the lower dosage tabs is MUCH larger than that which your body produces. In addition, there are some indications that melatonin can effect T-production. For example: http://jme.endocrinology-journals.org/cgi/content/abstract/23/3/299
Obviously people will respond differently to various remedies. I tried melatonin several years ago. I couldn't tell it was doing anything. Slightly off topic as it's a drug, but I also tried Ambien once. I woke up at 3am the next morning. I considered that test a failure. I've never been much of a tea drinker but I do plan to try one of those recommendations soon. My biggest problem is I think too much. But it seems to depend on what exactly is on my mind when trying to fall asleep. If I'm thinking of anything important, distressing, serious or "real", forgetaboutit. I may be up half the night. But if I'm able (rare) to let my mind wander to something less important or serious, maybe even a fantasy of sorts. I'll fall asleep fairly quick. Even if I don't stay that way long. Just last Wednesday night I slept 4 hours getting up at 5am Thursday. Although I climbed into bed half a dozen times, I did not sleep again until 8pm Friday. I'll be 46 next month, I'm getting too old for that crap.
Valerian is best taken for several weeks before it does much of anything actually, i.e. don't give up after one night necessarily (assuming you can take the smell)...
Every guy over 30 should avoid alchohol. It screws up the "P450" system in the liver which causes estrogen to build up. Badness....
