Holiday Observation

Discussion in 'Trading' started by elitetradesman, Feb 14, 2011.

  1. Does anyone know if there's an exchange in the U.S that observes a statutory holiday on a different date than other exchanges, regardless of financial instruments traded?

For example, Christmas Day will be observed on Dec 26 this year. Do you know of any U.S. exchange that observes it on a date other than Dec 26?

While we're at it, do all exchanges in a given country, again regardless of financial instruments traded, observe a statutory holiday on the same date?

I'm asking because we're developing trading software and there's a debate over wether an observed holiday depends on an exchange.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. 1) If Christmas Day is a Saturday, the exchange holiday would be Friday December 24th.....is that what you mean?
    2) Some of the "New York" commodity exchanges are closed on the Friday after Thanksgiving while most other exchanges are open.

  3. Yep, that's correct.

Thanks! Do these exchanges that are open have regular trading hours that day?
