Playbook: “We wouldn’t call it a blue wave, as Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar did today, but it’s the most impressive midterm showing for an incumbent president since 2002, when George W. Bush was in the White House and Republicans gained eight House seats and two Senate seats. But Bush did that with a nearly 70% approval rating as the country continued to rally around him after 9/11.”

“President Biden’s approval rating on Tuesday averaged 41%, per FiveThirtyEight. And 72% of Americans said the country was headed in the wrong direction.”

“Voters looked at the alternative to Bidenism — and they chose to stick with the president and his party.”

“Republicans had a lousy night nationwide Tuesday. In Pennsylvania, it was an unmitigated disaster,” the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

“Within the state Republican Party, some insiders are already maneuvering for change. Ted Christian, a former Trump adviser in the state, and Andy Reilly, the Pennsylvania GOP national committeeman, are both making moves toward potentially replacing the state party chairman, Lawrence Tabas, according to three Republicans familiar with the conversations, who asked for anonymity to disclose private talks.”

“But even if there’s no shift in leadership, interviews with more than a dozen GOP officials, strategists, and party leaders revealed widespread frustration with the state party, particularly its decision not to endorse an alternative to gubernatorial nominee Doug Mastriano during the Republican primary.”

If the polling for the midterms was significantly wrong, why should be believe Biden’s approval polling?

c'mon now, don't be coping now. The youth by and large dislike him and came out in record numbers.

They may disprove the job he is doing but maybe more likeable/less dislikeable than the polls suggest.

  8. Not going to call myself a social butterfly, but I have yet to meet an enthusiastic Biden supporter.

We’ll see but what is for sure is that the right wing pollsters definitely screwed up the aggregates this cycle. For reference, Times/Sienna was pretty close:

I like Biden. I’m not flying a flag or wearing a hat but Democrats are still pretty old school like that. We just expect the president to get stuff done. Some of these progressives are looking for a left wing version of Trump and that’s where you might find “enthusiasm.”
