Hiring freeze in bear market..HELP

Discussion in 'Wall St. News' started by OTCkrak, Jan 8, 2008.

  1. Assuming the fed keeps cutting rates, and the market continues to slide in 2008. what is the outlook for college grads looking for jobs RIGHT NOW> from what i understand the dollar will accelerate its fall with further cuts and inflation will hit the fan :/

specifically im looking for a series 7 sponsorship from a third tier broker/dealer but im worried that because the DJIA will be testing 10,000.. Cold calling and selling stocks is gonna be a dead art?

MY QUESTION IS.... how does the "industry" of retail stockbrokers act in a bear market ? Do series 7 applicants decline in a bear market?

    thank you

  2. Brokerage firms tend to over-hire at market peaks and over-fire near market bottoms. They're always willing to hire "good" people at any time. Since individuals have relinquished control of their money to institutional money managers, the growth is towards managed fund products, not individual stock-picking.
