No, it's part of being fair. We are not savages. Although the right would like us to be. Socialism is OK. We are part socialist now. Jesus was a socialist.
We now have a Bingo. An admission by a lib that socialism is what we do and it's ok. This now should show everyone, that didn't know already, what is a huge part of what is wrong with this country. --Izzy
Yes, it is ok. It's the moral thing to do. We are partly socialist. That's good. We are partly capitalist. That's good. The very wealthy have made it on the backs of every citizen in the US. They didn't build that alone. Thus a collective responsibility. The right would have us descend into every man for himself savagery. We are better than that. I notice that you have no comment on the chart I posted above.
You are wrong. No social safety net = revolution and its atrocities at some point. Pure socialism - USSR (no comments needed I hope) Pure capitalism - child labor, unhumane working conditions, pollution, disability is basically death and etc. Just one example, there was a huge opposition in 19th century to building New York aqueducts. It delayed the project for over a decade. The opponents hated the fact that government is doing something for people. However, once built and clear water supply was established, Cholera epidemics plummeted. The real color of the world is gray, and not white or black.
The top 1% derive more than half their income from business profits and capital gains/dividends/rents. Perhaps the bottom dwellers should invest rather than buy stupid shit like $10 hamburgers, $100 headphones, $500 phones, etc.. It's clear the rich are getting richer by reinvesting, why punish this activity with more taxes?
What you've described is not socialism. Most don't understand what socialism means. It's not safety net or aqueducts (infrastructure).
I do understand it very well, I lived under it. This was just an example of government involvement into its subject lives. As futurecurrents said, "every man for himself" pure capitalism mentality is just as destructive as pure socialism. Would like to hear what your version of what socialism is. Doesn't it seem ridiculous in 2016 that someone will express strong opposition to a clean flowing water, but that was the reality back then. A lot of fights that we having today will just be as weird to people living 100 years from now. The irony is that the conservative are more often than not on the wrong part of history.
Your postings indicate a stark lack of knowledge and understanding concerning the economic and political theory of socialism. --By the way the line about clean water is a foggy liberal talking point. Conservatives look after the environment exceedingly well. Conservatives are not interested in having dirty water.
Making money using money to simply make more money is not necessarily a good thing. The wealthy are literally sitting on piles of gold. That gold needs to get out into the economy instead of just sittting there. And more than that, the very wealthy have simply become too wealthy relative to EVERYONE else. Time to get it more fair again. I like how you call the poor "bottom dwellers". I think Jesus called them that also.
