  2. Keep an eye on sites like slickdeals.net for Quad Core + 22 inch monitor = <$600 from Dell. I've seen quite a few of these types of deals in the last few months.

  3. Yep.
    And just an FYI . . .

Memory has been shown to run "faster" when equal amounts of the same spec memory populates ALL of the memory slots . . . In other words, 512mb, 512 mb, 512mb, 512mb over all four memory slots for an overall total of 2 Gigs as opposed to "mixing" two different sizes of memory
    ( ie. 1 Gig + 256mb, and 1 Gig + 256mb ).

So- thanks to the information given, I duplicated the proposed system exactly, with the exception of 4 Gigs Ram instead of 2. Runs extremely fast, is ridiculous! Had it put together and tested by pros.
And yes, it does make a huge difference in loading multiple charts at the same time in Multicharts, estimated load time less than 20% I would say.... many thanks to the OP!

Hey Vienna. Lost track of this thread, sorry for not being able to reply to earlier questions.

Glad you got everything worked out. System sure is a screamer. Still running rock solid here.

Did you get the builders to test your overclock potential? Did you get your hands on a Q6600 "SLACR"? It will state such on the retail Intel box in S-SPEC section.

Strongly recommend you stress test your system overnight and ensure it runs Prime95 completely stable for 12+hrs.

Also keep track of your core temps for the first week or so until everything is confirmed solid:

My system @ 3.0ghz never gets over 40-43C with system fully loaded during trading hours. When you run prime95, it will jump into the high 50's/low 60's.

Thank you for the help. I will actually have another one built, as my ho computer. How do I get a hold of the SLACR chip? I can't see it in the online specs...?

Ok- I still don't know what "Intel Quad Core Q6600 G0 SLACR @ 3.2GHz OverClock" means?

The only 6600 processors that I find have 2.4 GHz (=does it mean it is a 2.4, which YOU overclock to 3.2?), and I can not find the SLACR type w/ the normal retail sources?

  8. "G0" stands for the CPU stepping.

It is the latest revision of Intel processor "stepping" that you can get for the Q6600 that runs at 2.40 and can be over-clocked to 3.2 GHz . . . as opposed to the previous SL9UM (B3) version.
