Actually, as you no doubt know, tofu takes on the taste of whatever food is mixed with it. Therefore, since it is bland, it works well with strong tasting foods. For example, although I eat very lean beef once a week to help ensure that I get enough iron, I genuinely like the taste of very spicy tofu chili enhanced with cayenne pepper. You won't feel you're compromising on taste, and you'll be sweating after having a bowl.
killthesunshine obstensibly made it so by saying any meat or animal protein intake is not only not healthy, but harmful, and by claiming that humans are herbivores, not omnivores.
Okay. Well, I definitely go by "omni," but I try to limit my meat intake to very lean portions of about 6 to 8 ounces per serving and generally no more than 3 times a week. On the one hand, I think it can be challenging to get all of the nutrition that the body requires strictly from a vegetarian diet, but on the other hand excessive meat consumption seems to age the body prematurely. And so, I favor something of a skewed middle ground, with a greater emphasis on fruits and vegetables. EDIT: I should point out that I also consume low fat dairy products, and that I get more of my protein from soy than from meat.
animal protein has some very unhealthly components. lots of saturated fat and cholesterol. and, as a result too many cals for the nutritional buck too. you might try to refute this with a few crack pot internet bloggers but it's an established fact supported with many many years of good solid original research by good researchers. lots of animal protein SHORTENS lifespan. period. end of story. ps who ruined this page with their oversized portions
